Pro P erty F ro M the e stAte o F Ms. JACqueLiNe KuzNiCKi, ChiCAgo, iLLiNois
Ms. Jacqueline Kuznicki’s collection of over 800 pieces of American pottery exemplifies her lifelong passion for collecting and her love for fine decorative objects. Ms. Kuznicki dedicated much of her life to assembling this collection; the extensive compilation includes examples by Rookwood, Roseville, Weller and others.
Jackie, as she was known by family and friends, was born in Chicago in 1934. She grew up in the Back of the Yards neighborhood and graduated with honors from Saint Augustine High School. Jackie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially nature walks with her mother, fishing with her father, and attending White Sox games at old Comiskey Park. After a long career with Illinois Bell, she took an early retirement to care for her ailing mother. Jackie’s life was filled with an appreciation of both art and nature. The Chicago Botanical Gardens was one of her favorite sanctuaries; she visited the Gardens regularly, taking thousands of photographs during her visits over the years. While her own garden was simple, her collection of pottery offered an array of flora throughout her home.
An avid reader and quick learner, Jackie collected many books about American pottery to develop knowledge about her collection. She attended many shows, eager to learn from experts in the trade and other collectors.
Jackie may be remembered by most for her passion for collecting; however, her friends and family will best remember her warm and generous nature.
