This table was originally part of the collection assembled by Iowa’s twelfth governor, William Larrabee (1832-1912). It was purchased by the governor in 1900 during a trip to Europe and housed at his historic home, Montauk. Governor Larrabee was both an advocate and philanthropist, and endowed various endeavors especially those in support of education and the disadvantaged. He and his family left a legacy of monuments and historic buildings, the grandest of which was his own residence, Montauk, which overlooks the town of Clermont. Montauk is now listed on the National Registration of Historical Places and is also designated as an Iowa State Preserve.
