CARLO GIULIANO (1831-1895)

The desirability of Renaissance and, subsequently, Renaissance revival jewelry hit its apex during the mid to late 19th century. Master jeweler Carlo Giuliano took best advantage of this trend, weaving Renaissance themes into his skillfully crafted works. Beginning in Naples with the renowned Alessandro Castellani in the mid 1850’s and later establishing himself in London, Giuliano supplied some of the leading jewelry houses with his fine jewels. In 1875 he set up his own shop drawing clients eager for his acclaimed craft.

LUCIEN GAUTRAIT (1865-1937)

While little is known of M. Gautrait, his inspired work speaks volumes. A contemporary of Rene Lalique, Gautrait conspired with noted Parisian jeweler Leon Gariod on jewels for the house of Vever. Combining meticulously intricate engraving with delicate enamel, gemstones often became subtle counterpoints rather than the focus. While sought after in his day, fine examples of Gautrait are among the upper echelon of desirable Art Nouveau jewelry today.

Born in the Umbria region of Italy, Ms. Cicioni has spent the majority of her life in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Former wife of Count Orsi of Italy and widow of the late Niall MacManus, a noted Irish landowner and horse breeder, Ms. Cicioni has enjoyed an active social and philanthropic schedule. Her collection reflects the myriad influences of her adopted home and her frequent travels. Her attendance at numerous diplomatic and charitable events called for a suitably significant and expansive jewelry wardrobe.

The collection is filled with works ranging from classic to whimsical, but always exquisite. Many fashion forward examples combine the colorful gem tones so beloved in South America with the warmth of gold. NATURAL DIAMOND CRySTALS

Though diamond jewelry is admired and worn everyday by millions, most will never encounter a fine uncut diamond crystal firsthand. The majority of uncut diamonds have less than perfect crystal growth. Those examples with the distinctive double pyramid shape known as octahedrons are uncommon and especially desirable when also of fine quality. This shape provides the best raw material for creating fine faceted stone and rarely survives untouched. Therefore it is rare to find natural crystals in this form that are also nearly colorless, possess fine clarity and are of substantial size.
