The most desirable issue of Derriere le miroir, featuring Chagall’s Paris-themed work exhibited at Maeght in 1954, with 12 lithographs (10 in color, including cover, and two black and white). Toned, a few small creases and some light scattered soiling to wrappers; lithograph Le dimanche is trimmed along the margins; otherwise contents are free of tears; remaining lithographs are bright with no visible defects. $6,000-8,000

405 (ARCHITECTURE) CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS MEMORIAL A collection of five large-scale architectural renderings, hand-colored, for the Christopher Columbus Lighthouse Competition, mounted on wood, unsigned.
Between the years 1928-30 some of the world’s most celebrated architects came together to judge a competition for the proposed Columbus Memorial Lighthouse. Judges included Raymond Hood and Eliel Saarinen (who took first and second place in the Chicago Tribune Competition), Horacio Acosta y Lara, and later Frank Lloyd Wright. Joseph Lea Gleave won first place, but the lighthouse was not built until 1992.
The present architectural plan, unattributed, includes a tall central tower, beneath which stands a fivedomed building housing a full narthex with proposed murals (hand-colored), an elaborate altar, and large statue, signalling its use as a mausoleum for the explorer. Size of largest 30 3/4 x 64 3/4 inches.
