Pro PE r T y F ro M T h E E STATE o F Mr. M A rk Fr IT z
Mark Fritz of West Bloomfield, Michigan was known in both New York and Michigan as an avid and educated collector. His collection of opera glasses, monoculars and other ophthalmic antiques (lots 1134-1375) is arguably one of the largest in the world, and was assembled over the course of more than forty years. Mr. Fritz also collected canes, inkwells, card cases, pipes and other vertu objects. When he became interested in an area, he explored it fully. His passion for collecting led him to pursue an interest in restoration, eventually becoming known for his ability to refurbish furniture, boxes and of course, opera glasses.
Mr. Fritz enjoyed a 37-year career in broadcast sales with ABC and FOX before working for and retiring from Westwood One Radio Network in 2008. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan, and was also an accomplished acoustic guitarist, pianist, golfer and gardener. He played basketball while studying at the University of Michigan and continued to play throughout his life. He passed away October 2, 2012.
