B E n JA min A n D Loui SE Pritz
Benjamin and Louise Pritz developed an eclectic collecting style that spanned their more than sixty years together and integrated each of their cultural identities. Mr. Pritz was a fifth generation Cincinnatian, while his wife was born during the Ottoman Empire in Constantinople. Together they refined a diverse collection of American and European paintings, silver, porcelain and glass, pre-Columbian pottery, scrimshaw, fine furniture, Islamic works of art, swords and sword canes, and numerous Asian works of art.
Louise Pritz was a gifted, multi-lingual writer and speaker, who belonged to the Current Topics Society in Cincinnati and worked for many years with the Cincinnati Art Museum as a docent and president of the Asian Art Society. Benjamin Pritz was passionate about fencing and a charter member of the Cincinnati Fencing Club, as well as an artist in his own right, working in mixed media. They both belonged to the Pan American Society, the Asian Arts Society and the International Snuff Bottle Society, and enjoyed local theater, the symphony and continuing their educations in religion, art, architecture and literature.
Known as a dynamic couple, Benjamin and Louise Pritz hosted members of the international arts and music communities during warm gatherings where lively conversation promoted an appreciation for all culture. Their elegant style was balanced by a genuine simplicity and openness felt by all who knew them.
We are honored to be handling the property from the estate of Benjamin and Louise Pritz. Asian works from their collection will be featured in our Asian Works of Art auction to be held September 15 and 16.
