INTRODUCTION

PAPERIT I Brand Guidline

Through our brand, we try to build an innovative system revolving around extracting usage from materials as much as possible in our case, paper.

Our brand strives to contribute to sustainability by using sustainable packaging and educating people on the idea of recycling.

OUR BRAND SDG’S Contribution to a better environment is a responsibility that every individual must encounter. Building a Smart and Sustainable City is one of the SDG pillars of Dubai’s plan for 2021 that we follow. It includes industry, innovation and infrastructure, sustainability and communities, and responsible consumption and production.

Our brand focuses on the ideas of consumption and production mainly through providing a DIY (Do It Yourself) kit to recycle paper waste into the homemade paper.

FACTS Paper is a commodity that we use every day whether it was a check at the restaurant or a notebook at home. According to Eversign website, 1.85 million tons of paper waste is created each year. This suggests that we need to take action. It also stated that 70% of office waste consists of paper.

THE MOMENT

As a Design student, I have always had paper waste. I always had the thought of what if I can do something with it instead of throwing it. I was inspired by the raw texture of the organic paper that I have bought from my recent travel, so I thought of creating a kit that involves tools to create homemade papers by recycling paper waste. I believe we should value what we have and create as much as we can out of it before we dispose of it. This is the key to sustainable living. 10


This is a personal sketch that represents the individual responsibility through creating a better environment, in this case reusing papers.

PRINT GUIDE Printing will follow the purpose of the brand of using fewer materials and sustainable packaging, therefore organic ink and paper are used as the main part of the printing process. Hand sewn binding is chosen to emphasize the activity of DIY and the raw authentic feel of the brand.

INK

Printing using recyclable paper is beneficial to the environment. Green America organization stated that recycled paper production emits 40% fewer greenhouse gases. As if the magazine industry used 100% recycled paper instead of virgin fiber it would be equivalent to taking 248,00 cars off the street for a whole year! Recycled paper can be used in everyday printing, Packages, and newspaper. It performs as good as normal papers and can be printed using vegetable oil ink.

Vegetable Oil-Based Ink is a sustainable less harmful substitute for petroleum-based ink. There are various types of vegetable oil inks such as soybean oil, Karanja oil, and rice barn il. They are the best commonly used ones based on printing quality, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
