Choosing tiles is an exciting time, although also a task where you need to have your wits about you to ensure you get it right first time! To help with this, we’ve listed below 3 of the most common mistakes to try and avoid when buying tiles:

3 Common Mistakes to Avoid

1 Not ordering a sample first: Seeing a sample in your own home is the best way to help you envisage how the tiles will look, and to see how well they go with your environment and lighting. 2 Not planning the layout and ordering enough tiles: It’s important to consider how you would like to lay the tiles, as this can influence the overall effect, so by creating a rough design / sketch beforehand this can be hugely helpful.

This process will also help you to determine how many tiles are needed, and therefore, help you to order the correct amount. We usually recommend ordering an additional 10% to allow for cuts and wastage, and for some patterns such as the herringbone layout, we would suggest increasing this to 15%, to allow for those extra fiddly cuts.

Ensuring you have the right amount of tiles when ordering will prevent any potential delays and additional costs, and will also ensure you have the same batch to complete your project.

3 Choosing price over quality: As the saying goes, “buy cheap, buy twice”. Investing in lower cost tiles may save you money initially, though they usually need to be replaced more frequently than those of better quality.
