BHARUCH HOUSE
G + 2 RESIDENTIAL BUNGALOW SITE :- BHARUCH, GUJARAT Bharuch House is a G+2 first home of the client. Nestled in the hot and dry setting of Bharuch, Gujarat; this house is designed to provide cool and comfort by opening it inwards into the courtyards nestled between the family spaces and the narrow interstitial “creek like transitional space which is further punctured with skylights thus forming a narrow crevice of light. Doing so it completely tries to respond to the sun - wind paths and the existing tree locations. The house uses concepts of passive cooling such as double wall insulations, recessed windows etc. to minimise the transmission of heat inside the house, thus keeping it cooler. Area : 10,000 sq.ft.

RESIDENTIAL INTERIORS SITE :- WORLI, MUMBAI
A residential interior of a flat facing the Worli Seaface in Mumbai designed for the royal family of the Kathiwadas has a spartan look with tall plain ceilings and surkhi plastered walls bringing back the charm of the old Rajasthani palaces with a contemporary touch. Area : 3,500 sq.ft.
PROJECT STAGE AND SCOPE OF WORK DONE : - Design discussions, design drawings. - Design presentations for client meetings. - Co-ordination with civil contractor, HVAC, electrical, plumbing contractors and other necessary agencies involved for design resolution. - Preparing detailed design and execution drawings for kitchen, bathrooms and other rooms. Preparing detailed door and window drawings and getting the necessary 1:1 mock ups done on site for the same. - Sample and mock up drawings for flooring, skirtings, wall finishes, thresholds. - Regular site visits to monitor the work progress.

Worked with Ar. Manas Vanwari, Vanwari Associates, Mumbai on the National War Museum Competition - Stage 2 held in 2016 (One of the seven short listed entries for stage 2)
THE PEOPLE’S PLATFORM Delhi is a city that is steeped in history and any major building that is situated in an important location, such as Princes Park, must integrate with the place harmoniously. This does not mean that the building must fit in by simply following the language of its, undoubtedly majestic, neighbors. Instead, the building must continue the historical narrative and try to encapsulate the ethos of the place by seeking new ways to express it in its architecture. By virtue of being a public building it must also give something back to the people and provide for a new public space from where one can experience the city differently. The architectural expression must present a solution for the dichotomy of having a contemporary building in a historic setting. With this in mind our proposal seeks to find answers to the following questions. - What is the role of a museum in the city? - How can historical context inform the architecture of the museum? - How does the building carry out the function of its program? - How can the museum be recognized as a symbol of the armed forces by the citizens?

SECTION AA
The facade of the War Museum must maintain a stoic and robust disposition. The base of the facade has arches that have the outline of a soldier standing guard around the building in an ordered manner. The middle section has a solid outlook. The red sandstone blocks shift only slightly to create narrow slits. This acts as a jaali that keeps the sun out, controls the light that enters the galleries and cools the building. At the top, a band accentuates the butterfly profiled people’s platform, which appears as if it has been tenuously linked to the building below, relying on its support to keep itself propped up. This connection symbolically represents the fragility of the freedom that citizens enjoy and is a reminder of the fact that it has come at the cost of many sacrifices of our armed forces, the subject matter of the museum below.
17
18
SECTION BB
The narrow slits on the wall are reminiscent of EMBRASURES or ARROWSLITS, a common element of the military architecture of forts; including the nearby Red Fort. Symbolically it can even be read as a body that has been riddled with bullet holes.

5. UNDERSTANDING REGION THROUGH THE CHANGING FABRIC OF THE CITY SITE :- RAM GARH ROAD, JAISALMER, RAJASTHAN, INDIA. Thesis research aims at determining and understanding various different, complex and inter-related factors that are responsible in forming the architecture, construct and fabric of the city of Jaisalmer. These factors help to formalise disciplines and planning principles that are indigenous to the city. The newer building constructed and newer
developments do not incorporate these principles, but blindly use the architectural features which have evolved indigenously; in order to maintain the imagery of Jaisalmeric architecture for the city. The newer buildings are constructed with traditional facade, where the internal layout has no relation with the facade. And in the
process of this shift, the role of the traditional craftsmen has been reduced to just the execution and decoration of the building. The traditional skills and craftsmanship of the building construction tradition in Jaisalmer is not completely lost but has been reduced down to just the facade treatments.
TEXTURE / MORPHOLOGY
STREET AND BUILDING LAYOUT AND ORIENTATION
UNEVEN SMALLER FACADES
The concept of extended facade is getting lost. Streets facade is becoming flat with smalle overhangs above the openings. Flat facade may work in case if the opposite buidings is high enough to cast a shadow over the building with flat facade such that it is shaded all the time.
TEXTURE / MORPHOLOGY UNEVEN BUILDING HEIGHTS
STREET PATTERN
i. STREET PATTERN AND BUILDING TYPOLOGY - Diagonal grid to east-west axis with closely placed courdyard buildings.
- Building typology has changed from closely placed courtyard buildings to closely placed plots with the building mass compacted in the centre without wind ducts that is courtyards.
- Diagonal grid to east-west axis(Existing) - Narrow zigzag alleys. - Blocked streets and alleys.

Thesis intends at reviving, refining and re-interpretting the forgotten principles and features of the traditional architecture of Jaisalmer such that it does not lose its true essence of regional value and traditional value and hence forming an identity to the old, original, regional and traditional (indigeneousness) of the city with the acceptance of new means. Thus, my thesis design intervention aims

at setting up an example before the newer developments happening in the city; for designing and building in the indigenous way that completely responds to the region but not ignoring the newer technological and functional needs.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE 2.
A. Plain Khambha - Rectangular profile. - 3 components *Base (Paggi) Plain, slightly wider than the sakh. *Body (Sakh) Thin grooved along length of sakh along the edges. *Head (Sira) It comprises the galat moulding. - Usually used on ground floor.
Blocks of Yellow Jaisalmer stones
C. Composite Khambha - Combination of Plain Khambha and Surangdar Khambha. - Mostly rectangular profile. - 3 components *Base (Paggi) Common base, with the Plain Khambha at centre and pair of Surangdar Khambhas at the sides. *Body (Sakh) The back side, facing interiors is plain. *Head (Sira) It supports margol and has a diyaslai. - Usually used on ground floor, on the outer extremity.
Concrete Composite Columns. Concrete columns with locally available yellow sandstone or limestone chips used as aggregates in the concrete mixture. Sometimes, cladded with 50mm thick slabs of yellow sandstone or limestone or painted with red ochre or yellow sand paste.
Composite Khambha is carved out of blocks of stone 15” X 15”.

Plain Khambha is carved out of blocks of stone 12” X 12”.
Surangdar Khambha is carved out of blocks of stone 12” X 12”.
B. Surangdar Khambha - Circular in cross - section. - 3 components *Base (Paggi) Comprises a bulging pot like element, with a constricted top and bottom. *Body (Sakh) It is fluted, generally with 8 segments. The shaft is spindle shaped with a bulging base and a narrow top. *Head (Sira) Its carved with petal forms upturned at their tip. - It can be single or in pairs. - It might be load bearing or just decorative (Used as pilasters in jharokhas).
2.
PROPORTIONS AND SIZES
Blocks of Yellow Jaisalmer stones. Powdered gypsum is mixed with water and used as a binding agent. Mortar is made of lime and sand. Finer varieties used as distemper. Red ochre from Pokhran and Ramdevra is used as dye.
Massive load bearing walls of about 450mm to 600mm thickness. Wall thickness depends on - Height of the building. - Size of the room. - Roof system adopted. - Binding material used for construction.
Panels of Yellow Limestone and/ or Sandstone.
Panels for the extended surfaces are 50mm thick.
WALLS 150mm to 250mm thick walls made of concrete blocks and then cladded with 50mm thick yellow Jaisalmer sandstone or yellow limestone on external faces and painted on internal faces. The concrete blocks of the required sizes are made by casting concrete with coarse aggregates of locally available yellow Jaisalmer sandstone or limestone. The proportion of aggragate is more as compared to concrete. Bands of sandstone like plinth band and lintel band runs throughout the length of the wall to give the required strength.
At Upper floor level Where the building facade projects out to form extended surfaces.

FLOOR
4.
FLOOR
The traditional method is to lay closely spaced timber beams (traditionally called as chinar) and cover them with a layer of jute matting above it is a layer of san grass or reed. A thick layer of about 450mm thickness of compacted soil is layed over this. The topmost finished layer is called lipai, it is a mud plaster. Lipai is made of two layers, the lowest layer (2-3mm thick) is a mixture of mud and gobar in the ratio 4:1 and the upper layer is a yellow sand (pillimitti) layer.
Mainly stone slabs are used with all the other layers of jute matting, compacted soil and mud plaster respectively. Comcrete slabs are also casted maily for larger spanning.
Because of the difficulty of finding timber in the desert, in the later houses timber beams are replaced by stone slabs.

ROOF
AND PROJECTIONS ON THE INTERNAL FACES SHADING AND PROJECTIONS ON THE EXTERNAL FACES The architecture and the form ofSHADING the spaces in Jaisalmer has evolved the way it is due to a number of influencing factors such as the hot and dry climate of the region, its topography, availability of materials and craftsmen, water systems and along with these physical aspects or factors there are social factors such as culture, protection and traditions of the people living there as the governing factors for the architecture of Jaisalmer.
SIZE AND PROPORTION
For roofs, the entire construction technique remains the same as that for the floors but only the upper layer of yellow sand (pillimitti) which is a finishing layer is not applied.
Mainly stone slabs are used with all the other layers of jute matting, compacted soil and mud plaster respectively.
The doors are generally quadratic, panelled, double shuttered made of wood with high thresholds and have iron bracings and studs. External doors are heavily decorated. The internal doors are lower and plainer. Wood from Teak, Sheesham and Haldu is used.
Pre made sandstone window frames are fit within the wall with a lintel band of sandstone placed above it.

PROGRAM AND DESIGN STRATEGY DIAGRAM
Public natured ground street is punctuated at two places with semi - public natured programs of UIT, which then connects to the upper level office spaces of UIT.
Spatial organisation along the ground street which is punctuated with UIT programs is that of a singly loaded corridor which is half level raised or sunk to allow visual interactions.
32
The route of movement is designed along the N-S axis. The Entry and Exit to the site are restricted to the two ends along the length of the site such that the visitor can experience the nature of STREET spaces and experiences created along it.
Meandering route of movement across the ground STREET to allow the revealing nature of street and not making it mundane and monotonous to walk across for a user.

9. DILUTING THE DIVIDE TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR SADHU GRAM DURING KUMBH MELA SITE :- SINHASTHA KUMBH MELA AT TAPOVAN, PANCHAVATI, NASHIK Nashik is one of the four holy and blessed lands where the most auspicious and the biggest Indian festival takes place - The Kumbh Mela which has woven around many other set of beliefs, on account of which people from all over India flock to Nashik to seek the Holy dip and hence cleanse all their sins. From this twelve yearly system of faith and belief arises a unique, dense, complex but organised system of - ‘The Pop - up City’.
Processional roads become the divide between sectors and hence the akhadas. But treating this divide as a braid to connect and link the two will help to bring together the akhadas and celebrate the festival. Thus, using the canal which acts as a natural divide on the site to establish the braid in the form of programmes and spaces alloted for communal gatherings and processions.
50
MASTER PLAN
STRATEGY 1 Utilising the existing divide on site and that is the canal.
STRATEGY 2 STRATEGY 3 STRATEGY 4 Incorporation and involvement of Braiding the two divided plots along Further dilusion of divide by existing institute structures (public the canal by introduction of the prointroduction of strands in nature) on site and those are trust cession path strands connecting the neighbouring sectors. and temple buildings.

13. WHAT CAN ARCHITECTURE
DO FOR ?
WORD :- CELEBRATION Translating the essence of a word or action or emotion or thing into a three - dimensional space. The idea was to create a form of space using modules that can be accustomed to different scales depending upon the usage and requirement. For example, a single module could be used as a shading structure with seating for intimate spatial quality. On the other hand, a number of such modules come together to form larger gathering spaces. The same was explored vertically by stacking of modules.
14. CREVICE OF LIGHT ANNEXE TO A TRUST BUILDING SITE :- PARSI WIDOWS TRUST, CHARNI ROAD
The project emerges from the concern that the existing trust building is very dark, dingy and non - welcoming. Hence, bringing in light in the building becomes my project and this is achieved by opening up the unutilised and nonfunctional spaces in the existing trust building. This establishes a healthy inside outside relationship of the widows residing there with the trust and then with the neighboring locality.
62
The gesture is of carving into the existing trust building. The nonfunctional spaces in the existing trust building becomes the functional and the most lively spaces of my annexe.
INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO
Detailing certain parts of the annexe to Parsi Widows Trust in terms of its interiors. Designing details of wall, furniture and railing for library, gallery and exhibition spaces.

15. CONNECTING VERANDAHS SITE :- HARIHARESHWAR The project started with developing a site based narrative which led to the larger intent of the project that is extending the spatial qualities of a verandah space on the street and thus creating an informal streetscape which facilitates better community interaction and bonding. This is achieved by creating a playful arrangement of just the plinths and roof structures.
