VERTICAL QUAD Troy, NY
Spring 2013 Group project with Sen Peter Zhang
The Living and Learning Center We were required to design housing for 500 RPi students and guests. Taking on the task of attracting by-passers and encouraging social gatherings my partner and I were able to design a structure that enables communal organization and exposure. Residents are able to experience learning facilities and extracurricular activities in the residence hall. EXTERIOR 1

ORGANIZATION
The Vertical Quad The residence hall is an extension of campus itself. Main public areas are visually connected vertically to allow more communal gatherings. Upon entering residents are exposed to multiple areas of interest. On the contrary, private areas (residential rooms, study areas) are hidden from the noise and movement to provide peaceful space. 5

Facade Design Individuality A unique facade was designed to provide individuality for 500 residents. By shifting the windows vertically they give character to each room however in a global scale they appear unified.

PERSPECTIO
Regents Park, London Fall 2013 Group project with Nicholas Nord and Andrew Van Meerbecke (Studio Perceptio) Perspectio is a pavilion designed to disorient the occupant in preparation for the exhibit. The geometry distorts perception of the perspective. This interlocking network of pathways suggests specific circulation, but allows various routes of interaction. The architecture is meant to enhance the experience of the work with the use of Perspectacles distributed among visitors. These devices allow inhabitants to try their hand at drawing the way the Oakes Brothers do, providing them with not simply a souvenir, but a deeper understanding of the work displayed and an intimate experience of the exhibit.

THE PERSPECTACLES
The Perspectacles were made to suspend a “canvas” in front of the eyes, so that a drawing could be made that emulated the Oakes Brothers’ method. This entails looking beyond the “canvas” in order to “trace” the subject. It was necessary for the frame to be rigid, for it to accommodate different head sizes, and for it to be easily produced and packaged for individuals, to provide this experience for anyone who might come to the pavilion. Complete with comprehensive directions, each package of Perspectacles has 5 easy to assemble pieces that can be put together in seconds.
THE DRAWING PHENOMENA PERSPECTACLES Collapsible insight for for everyday use.

PERSUADING ENVELOPE Schenectady, New York Fall 2012
Light and Museum The system that can suggest rather than force allows the skin to become a persuasive envelope. This project had a necessity in being able to observe and modify the amount of light portrayed within individual spaces. With the knowledge of knowing how light rays leaves different levels of light as it moves through different spaces, the design of the new faรงade was created. Light slits were placed onto the faรงade of the museum to adjust the lighting to have the appropriate amount, corresponding to the program.

When creating the camera obscures, light was being forced to refract and bend in the desired notion, creating destination points. By taking the same concept in creating the program of the museum, it can have a circulation that is manipulative and deceiving. The individuals that enter the museum will have a chance to experience the entity of the museum when trying to approach their destination points. By simply allowing the individuals to move into deeper areas of the museum it is possible to expand their desires and persuade them to explore different regions rather than simply moving to their destination point and leaving. 15
KNOTSCAPE Phoenix, Arizona Summer 2012 Knot house A Japanese style resort was designed based off a knot. The knot house merges with the topography to become more continuous and less intense to provide for a peaceful space. The design satisfies definitive program for a resort (pool, meditation area, spa) and a narrative organization due to the knot design.
