This is a highly emotional, and at times, a funny movie that is also very uplifting. The movie starts as Nathan Hayes stops at the gas station and begins to fill his truck up with gas. When Nathan turns his back to pick up a squeegy, a gang member jumps into his truck and takes off with it. Nathan begins to run after his truck, where he manages to grab on to the gang member through the window. This then begins the hold-your-breath as Nathan fights for control of the truck. The truck crashes into the ditch and the gang member runs. As we find out, Nathan let him go because in the back seat was his son.
As we find out as he is questioned by the Albany Police, Nathan has just transferred there to Albany, a small town where he grew up, from the Atlanta Police. The Albany Police department are good officers, as they're friendly and easy to get along with, but they are facing problems there, especially from a growing gang.
Adam, who is played by Alex Kendrick, is the leader of the three friends with the police force. Now Nathan is joining the group. Although Adam is a good police officer, he is not so much at the home front as a dad. He doesn't want to run with his son in the father and son race, and he doesn't want to dance with his daughter in the parking lot, more out of embarrassment, although he will go on to regret that.
Now the sad part of the movie is when Adam's daughter is in a car accident and passes away as a result of her injuries. Adam, his wife and son have a hard time dealing with this terrible accident. As time goes on, Adam realizes that he needs to be a much better father to his son.
Adam is aware of the fact that he hasn't been a good enough father. His three police officers and his carpenter, who is working for him, also come to the same understanding that they need to become better fathers themselves. All of them realize that they are also facing enormous problems in their lives that need changing before they can become good fathers. The rookie officer had his child out of wedlock and left, so he has never seen his child. Shane, Adam's partner, has been through a divorce and only sees his son when he can. Each individual father has many issues to confront in their lives to be better fathers. Some of the problems can seem to be overwhelming, but the end of the movie will make you want to not only stand up and cheer and praise the Lord, but also make you to be a much better father yourself.
Courageous Legacy
will help make you a better father, just like the movie Fireproof helped people understand one another to make a better marriage.
This movie is heart breaking at times, and will make you laugh with great humor as well.
