HISTORIC MACON HOSTS PRESERVATIONFEST 2010 (Macon, GA) “What could be better than celebrating preservation on the porch of a late 1800s house in the heart of Macon, GA?,” asks, Josh Rogers, Executive Director of Historic Macon Foundation. On Friday, Nov. 5 from 5pm-7pm, Historic Macon Foundation will host PreservationFEST 2010 at 306 Orange Street in Macon. The Victorian home on Orange Street is one of seven current properties being revitalized by Historic Macon. Live music from members of Good Country People and Sue & the Bastards will serve as the soundtrack for an evening of popcorn, beer and a free introductory membership to Historic Macon. “The Board of Trustees is delighted to expand our reach in middle Georgia by offering an introductory membership event for new members,” said Jeff Logan, President of Historic Macon Foundation. “On top of that, celebrating our rehabilitation efforts at this energy efficient Showhouse makes this event one not to miss.” Historic Macon purchased this property a number of years ago and recently began rehabilitation on it based on standards set forth by the Department of the Interior. Over $68,000 in historic tax credits are available on the property, including a freeze on property taxes at the amount the house was worth before rehabilitation. “306 Orange Street is a gem in downtown Macon, and this event will engage new members in our mission,” said Rogers. “In the coming months, this same property will be featured as the Tour of Homes at the world-famous Cherry Blossom Festival as well as our Decorators’ Showhouse,” he continued. The event is free for Historic Macon members and $10 for non-members at the door. Historic Macon is a nonprofit organization that advocates for Macon’s historic and architectural heritage and facilitates preservation efforts in the community, revitalizes Macon’s neighborhoods and cares for the Sidney Lanier Cottage.
