10 Essential Traits of a Successful Graphic Designer Introduction: Graphic design is an extremely creative pursuit. While designing comes naturally to a person, graphic design is one such skill that needs to be acquired through hard work and persistent efforts. Every graphic designer should be aware of various graphic designing tools, should have good design sensibilities and above all, should always be eager to learn more. However, there are certain unwritten rules, more specifically there are some essential traits that need to be followed to get a smooth sailing as a successful and dynamic graphic designer.
Understanding Client Requirement Always Lies at the Crux:
1
A good graphic designer always goes an extra mile to understand exactly what the client expects. There are five things that every client would want a graphic design company to understand before assigning the project: To know everything is worth it, to know you’re listening to their ideas, to see something truly brilliant, to have their vision realized, and to provide the best solution.

Client May be Wrong, But Remember Client is Always Right: Once you are working for a client, it is very important to keep your ego on the backburner. Client has a certain preconceived image, and anything other than that image does not goes well with the client. A successful graphic designer never tells the client that ’YOU ARE WRONG’. Even when the client is wrong, the client is always right. Make the client understand why the design you have prepared is the best for him, here it is important to put communication skills to good use. However, the client is not always wrong, the client knows his audience better than you do, so know when to give in to clients demands. Doodle, Doodle and Doodle: For a designer, nothing works well like the good old doodling. So the thumb rule is doodle, doodle, doodle and doodle. Designers agree that computers can sometimes be limiting rather than liberating. Brainstorming and putting down ideas on paper helps designers focus more, and also bring in originality and innovation to their designs. Take a Break- Sip Some Coffee, Take a Nap or a Brisk Walk down the Park would be Good: Graphic design is a creative pursuit, and the importance of taking good stress busting breaks cannot be emphasized more. Taking breaks that clear up the mind, and when you come back to your designs, you can easily identify where you need rectifications. Do not be Afraid to Start From Scratch: There are times when graphic designers get stuck with the old designing patterns this is where it is important to start fresh. If you are not satisfied with how the design progresses, and find that it is no good going back a few steps and iterating, then do not hesitate and start afresh. Assign Stages and Follow Them: Schedule your work, and divide the design into stages. For example concept stage, where you just doodle and generate a concept or an idea. Then comes the stage where you add flesh to the basic skeleton of your design, decide the color palette and the textures. Further, prepare the design on a PC; prepare 2 to 3 different versions of the designs and so on. A cautious and experienced designer always gets approvals and client feedback at every stage of the design process. Take Reviews:
1
A designer loves what he/she has designed. This is why, it becomes difficult to find faults and identify flaws. Taking reviews gives better insight into the required rectifications and a clear picture of how the design has turned up. Earlier seeking peer reviews in office or amongst your group was the only option, however with the growing popularity of social media, designer often take reviews of industry experts via these platforms. However a word of caution here, be careful, you might just leak the designs that are exclusively prepared for your client.

Take Criticism Positively, and Iterate and Revise Your Designs: Criticism is the part and parcel of a graphic designer’s job. Do not let it break your morale. Use criticism to your benefit, learn from it and next time when you work, make sure to iterate and revise your designs based on the constructive reviews of your critics. Secure Your Payments Get Paid Upfront: If you are a freelance, or an independent designer understand, that not all clients are serious about the design project. Hence, however ruthless or business minded (which designers are not) it might sound, it is very important to charge your client upfront , before you invest any time, efforts and resources on their projects. An upfront paycheck is an assurance that the client is serious about the project. Further information about graphic design, visit at: HiTechBPOServices.com About Author:
