Words have meanings that we distort

The word ‘brainwashing’ implies that your brain needs some washing. What is wrong with this word? It indicates a clean brain, a clean mind, but it is used in a derogatory manner. Let’s consider the word ‘disillusioned’. It is good that you are disillusioned; it means you have come to reality. ‘Purana’ means that which is new in town, the most modern, but is now used in the sense of being old. The word ‘enthused’ comes from Greek which means God is with us; then it came to mean crazy, and today it has changed again. In the course of time, meanings of words have been completely changed by us or has it been distorted? Cotopaxi is a stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains, located about 28 km (17 miles) south of Quito,Ecuador, South America. It is the second highest summit in the country, reaching a height of 5,897 m (19,347 ft) and is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world (claims that Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world are incorrect.)

Since 1738, Cotopaxi has erupted more than 50 times, resulting in the creation of numerous valleys formed by lahars (mudflows) around the volcano.

Many sources claim that Cotopaxi means "Neck of the Moon" in an indigenous language, but this is unproven. The mountain was honoured as a "Sacred Mountain" by local Andean peoples, even prior to the Inca invasion in the 15th century. It was worshiped as “rain sender”, that served as the guarantor of the land's fertility, and at the same time its summit was revered as a place where gods lived

Climbing Cotopaxi to the summit is quite popular with up to 100 climbers attempting it on weekends. Today, mountain guide companies offer regular guided climbs of the mountain and — as of 11 December 2012 — no mountain peaks in Ecuador over 5,000 m high may be climbed without a

licensed guide. Climbers grade the conventional route alpine PD (Peu Difficile) or WS (Wenig Schwierig) — or PD/WS+ (indicating "Mildly Difficult PLUS"). Adventure tourism operators in Quito also offer mountain biking tours from the Refuge downhill along the dirt track. Walter_noronha@

Christmas week 3-day family camp, at Mandwa It was a glorious 2 day and 3 nights of sailing, windsurfing, kayaking… There were 14 kids aged 6-12. The youngest (Noor) was a sweet 6 year old girl who could be best described as a purebred water baby. She just loved the water. There were two teenage girls, who took to the Hobbie Cat, like ducks take to water. By the end of the camp they were Among the adults, there were 3 windsurfers…all stepping onto the windsurfing board for the first time. Then there were 5 ladies, who took a fancy to sailing the Beneteau 24.7, complete with a ballooning big red spinnaker. By the end of the camp, they had learnt to rig the sails by themselves – all of the sails – the mainsail, the jib and the big bright red spinnaker. They also became adept at holding the tiller and shouting sailing terms like “tacking’ “ready to gybe” “hard to port” “give way” On the last day, there was an interesting session on learning to tie sailor's knots correctly. It was interesting to watch the participants get all tied up in their ropes :) Completing this camp, took a lot of hard work, sportsmanship and commitment for all the participants. Their conversion from landlubbers to sailors did not happen overnight. By the second morning there wee many who were already tired and sore all over. But they were such good sports and so determined to learn. The weather also played its part. It was nice and cool in the mornings and in the evenings and the afternoons were wonderfully, lazily pleasant. Over lunch, on the second day, the participants were excitedly sharing their experiences and here’s what was overheard. One of the windsurfers – a 50 plus guy with 2 teenage kids who were learning the Hobbie Cat, was making great progress on his windsurfing board. He had now leant how to relax and balance and take the board out to the marker, turn, and bring it safely back to shore and her was now hoping to learn how to go faster and make many turns in the water. Here’s what he said. “If someone had to tell me yesterday that you can even stand on that board for just 5 minutes, I wouldn’t have believed in him. But here I am, now I can balance quite well and seem to have got the basics. It did take a lot of aches and pains and a lot of falling into the water but it was all absolutely worth it. Now I want to try and race.”

Perhaps the highlight of teh day was the Dolphins. They must have sensed this group was having a lot of fun so they joined in - you know how playful dolphins can be? By @thaddeusdsouza ~ Thaddeus Dsouza

Be Yourself is all that you can do The image depicts a Lion trying to get to the level of the Giraffe. Doesn’t it look familiar. Many a times we try to copy others just to be in vogue or to show I can do it better. I across a video that was viral wherein Mallika Sherawat (No no I’m not attracting the censor board’s attention here) gave an interview in a feign American accent. Not that I have problem but are we ashamed of being an Indian. So many youngsters I meet in the youth group & they would start a conversation putting up an accent learnt from some call centre earpieces. I’m not against the accent what I’m sad about is the behavior that changes along with it. When I joined St Xavier’s I was released into a foreign land within my own city. Coming from simple background surrounded by Maharastrian culture that was bindaas, caring & humble. I was catapulted to a world wherein people didn’t care about you unless you are in the style dude, put on some bling bling maamah. Harsha Bhogle (my idol) once said – I don’t understand why we are so ashamed in being our Indian selves is it because we want the world to know that I don’t want to be called an Indian by my tone & I am hip if I’m an American. I don’t know. Will leave the question unanswered. The only thing I have learned through these few years is to follow people & learn good qualities & being true to my roots that is my India.

East Meets West !

Picture taken 3 years back at Shiradi Ghats, Karnataka What is a journey? While there seems to be numerous definitions and many degrees of moral and spiritual significance attached to it, surely most of us would agree that it goes beyond travel escapades. My travel experiences have shaped my world view of religious sense and practice across boundaries. Indian essence truly amalgamates the East with the West uniting patrons. Of the thousands of pilgrims that flock India religious destinations, many are foreigners. India’s biggest export is self-realization - the method and techniques which have been adopted by Julia Roberts, Santana, Ringo Starr, and George Harrisonwhile embracing Hinduism. Sting recently visited the Osho ashram and is reported to be a great fan of India, having also played the sitar at the Ganges. The west has picked up the best from the east. For the adrenaline junkie that I am, with the intense high that travelling provides me, I am going to continue to explore the world with an open mind and find learning in travel experiences.

House of Asia - Great Ambience, Wide Spread, Excellent Service

The new-improved 'House of Asia' at Hotel Mirador is a great place to dine. I went there for a buffet dinner with my family and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They have a large spread with a variety of Asian cuisines and live counters, each dish tasting better than the other. The food was beautifully laid out across one entire stretch of the restaurant, which made the place appear less cluttered. The ambiance was great. The foot-tapping live music added that extra zing to our taste buds. In fact my wife and I tapped to the groovy crooner. The Staff was courteous and helpful and made us feel at home. They also arranged a beautiful cradle for my infant son just so that we could have a great time there. On the whole, a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

The benefits of Procrastinating! “Never put off for tomorrow what you can do today”, Thomas Jefferson has been trying to convince us over the years never to procrastinate! But is it really true? We give you reasons to think otherwise! 1. Creativity: Sure you can finish off the work today…but everyone knows creative juices tend to flow better when you are up at 4:00am against a 7:00am deadline and you’ve already finished 6 cups of coffee. 2. Efficiency: Do it once – and do it right! Procrastinating may result in lack of time but it ensures you put your best foot forward and get things right the first time… because you know there are no second chances! 3. Better time management: Well… if you have been procrastinating people will argue that you don’t have very good time management skills, but on the contrary, your time management skills improve 10 fold as working against a deadline requires you to be very effective in a few hours. 4. Multi Tasking: A skill truly mastered by any individual who procrastinates. Only a chronic procrastinator knows how to handle 7 things at once while trying to convince your boss that everything is going just fine!

5. The finer things in life: In today’s day and age, you constantly hear people say, “But I can never find the time”. That is one thing a procrastinator never runs short of. You will always see a smile on his face because while everyone else was busy “finishing this today”, he knows he had a great time!
