Your career in hairdressing starts here Find out how a hairdressing apprenticeship can set you up for life.

WHAT IS A HITO HAIRDRESSING APPRENTICESHIP? An apprenticeship is the best way to become a qualified hairdresser. You learn in a real salon, with real people as your models. Plus, you earn as you learn so you’ll avoid racking up a huge student loan. To complete an apprenticeship you enter into a formal training agreement between you and your employer – a salon that’s qualified to train apprentices. You’ll also attend training at a training provider. HITO manage this training and your training in the salon, so if you have any problems or questions you can come to us.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN APPRENTICESHIP? • You gain a NZQA qualification, recognised all over the world. • You are paid to learn. • We cover 75% of your fees. • You avoid a huge student loan debt. • You’ll get taught by experts. • You learn using real life models. • You’re learning from real life customers. • You also get support from HITO all the way through your training.

HOW DOES THE APPRENTICESHIP SYSTEM WORK? Once you’ve secured an apprenticeship at a salon, your trainer will teach you the skills that you need to know. HITO will arrange for these skills to be assessed. Because the qualification is skill based, the harder you work to learn each skill, the sooner you’ll become a qualified hairdresser.

HITO’s role in your training is to make sure everything is running smoothly – that you’re learning all the things you need to gain your qualification, and helping you to set goals for what you want to achieve. We also pay for approximately 75% of your off-job training fees – that means no huge student loan to worry about!
