WI N N I NG doesn’t happen by

A C C I D E N T.

A rub. It’s all that separates a flawless round from “better luck next time.” But you’re not depending on luck. You’re depending on countless hours in and out of the saddle. And you didn’t come here for just a ribbon. You came for the championship ribbon. So ask yourself, does your horse have the stomach to win?

Time for a gut check. TheStomachToWin.com

When administered for 8 or 28 days, just one dose a day of ULCERGARD is proven to effectively prevent performance-robbing equine stomach ulcers in horses exposed to stressful conditions.

“At home, she's a very sweet horse. Gazelle likes everyone and she loves attention, but in the ring she's an unbelievable, focused competitor. I can always count on her and when she's in the jump-off I can really call on her. She is very experienced, so I think that I have the advantage that she's been around the world and seen a lot of things. I just try to not make any mistakes and stay out of her way!”

EQUIOXX.

Three formulations to fit your needs in and out of competition: Injection, Paste and Tablet.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: As with any prescription medication, prior to use, a veterinarian should perform a physical examination and review the horse’s medical history. A veterinarian should advise horse owners to observe for signs of potential drug toxicity. As a class, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be associated with gastrointestinal, hepatic and renal toxicity. Use with other NSAIDs, corticosteroids or nephrotoxic medication should be avoided. EQUIOXX has not been tested in horses less than 1 year of age or in breeding horses, or pregnant or lactating mares. For additional information, please refer to the prescribing information or visit www.equioxx.com. Merial is now part of Boehringer Ingelheim. ®EQUIOXX is a registered trademark of Merial. ©2017 Merial, Inc., Duluth, GA. All rights reserved. EQUIEQX1705-A (1/17)

Map of HITS-on-the-Hudson

CAUTION: Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. EQUIOXXÂŽ (firocoxib) is indicated for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in horses. Firocoxib belongs to the coxib class of non-narcotic, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). CONTRAINDICATIONS: Horses with hypersensitivity to firocoxib should not receive EQUIOXX. WARNINGS: EQUIOXX is for use in horses only. Do not use in horses intended for human consumption. Do not use in humans. Store EQUIOXX Tablets out of the reach of dogs, children, and other pets in a secured location in order to prevent accidental ingestion or overdose. Consult a physician in case of accidental human exposure. Horses should undergo a thorough history and physical examination before initiation of NSAID therapy. Appropriate laboratory tests should be conducted to establish hematological and serum biochemical baseline data before and periodically during administration of any NSAID. NSAIDs may inhibit the prostaglandins that maintain normal homeostatic function. Such anti-prostaglandin effects may result in clinically significant disease in patients with underlying or pre-existing disease that has not been previously diagnosed. Treatment with EQUIOXX should be terminated if signs such as inappetance, colic, abnormal feces, or lethargy are observed. As a class, cyclooxygenase inhibitory NSAIDs may be associated with gastrointestinal, renal, and hepatic toxicity. Sensitivity to drug-associated adverse events varies with the individual patient. Horses that have experienced adverse reactions from one NSAID may experience adverse reactions from another NSAID. Patients at greatest risk for adverse events are those that are dehydrated, on diuretic therapy, or those with existing renal, cardiovascular, and/ or hepatic dysfunction. The majority of patients with drug-related adverse reactions recover when the signs are recognized, drug administration is stopped, and veterinary care is initiated. Concurrent administration of potentially nephrotoxic drugs should be carefully approached or avoided. Since many NSAIDs possess the potential to produce gastrointestinal ulcerations and/or gastrointestinal perforation, concomitant use of EQUIOXX with other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as NSAIDs or corticosteroids, should be avoided. The concomitant use of protein bound drugs with EQUIOXX has not been studied in horses. The influence of concomitant drugs that may inhibit the metabolism of EQUIOXX has not been evaluated. Drug compatibility should be monitored in patients requiring adjunctive therapy. The safe use of EQUIOXX in horses less than one year of age, horses used for breeding, or in pregnant or lactating mares has not been evaluated. Consider appropriate washout times when switching from one NSAID to another NSAID or corticosteroid. The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) contains more detailed occupational safety information. For technical assistance, to request an SDS, or to report suspected adverse events call 1-877-217-3543. For additional information about adverse event reporting for animal drugs, contact FDA at 1-888-FDA-VETS, or http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary.

Out & About in Saugerties, NY Saugerties is a small town with lots to offer

Saugerties, New York is located in the Hudson Valley, just on the edge of the Catskill Mountains on one side and the Hudson River on the other. It is a historic town full of trendy boutiques and eateries, as well as a number of historic landmarks. In the heart of the village you will find a range of shops and restaurants suitable for all ages, and on the outskirts of town you will find beautiful homes, farms, and of course, HITS-on-the-Hudson. HITS has called Saugerties home since 2004. With the main office housing employees year-round and the horse show secretaries seasonally, you will find equine enthusiasts here all four seasons. Since the start of HITS-on-the-Hudson, the town has thrived thanks to equestrians and locals alike. Businesses in Saugerties adapted to the new clientele, changing store hours and menu items to better suit the equestrian community, while HITS grew with the addition of Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern, Saugerties Steamboat Co., BLACK BARN, and HITS Endurance. Through these changes, the town has flourished, with many new businesses filling empty storefronts along Main Street.

HITS Sister Companies Diamond Mills, Saugerties Steamboat Co. & BLACK BARN

Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern

After a day of horse showing at HITS how will you decide where to eat? One of HITS’ sister companies, The Tavern at Diamond Mills promises a true culinary experience with a soothing atmosphere to unwind in comfort. With a “Soho in Saugerties” feel, the Tavern is located just one-mile from HITS-on-the-Hudson overlooking the Esopus Falls. Originally, this location was home to the Martin Cantine Paper Mill, built in 1888. In 1978 the mill caught fire, leaving almost nothing left until 2007 when Tom Struzzieri took interest in developing the site. Whether you are looking to grab a quick drink at the bar or have an exquisite meal with family, Diamond Mills staff will take care of you. Presenting handcrafted cuisine from CIA trained Executive Chef Giuseppe Napoli, Diamond Mills is a world class dining option or a great place to host a VIP event during the horse show; whether celebrating a Grand Prix win or a Lead Line ribbon, treat your family, clients and associates to a memorable evening. With several rooms available for private dining, including the Library or Mezzanine, choose which room has the right aesthetic for your event from jaw-dropping event spaces with waterfall views for weddings, galas, and corporate events. 25 South Partition St, Saugerties, NY P: 845.247.0700

Saugerties Steamboat Co. If you are looking for a more casual dining option during the horse show, Saugerties Steamboat Co. offers brunch, lunch, and dinner options on the waterfront overlooking the Esopus Creek where it meets the Hudson River. From house-made pasta to seafood dishes, Chef Giuseppe Napoli creates dishes to satisfy. Not only is Saugerties Steamboat Co. a dining option, but also offers a beautiful event space, with exposed wood beams and a rustic feel. The space is the perfect place for a wedding, banquet, or celebration of any kind. Guided kayak tours and fishing charters are also available for those looking to explore the Hudson Valley by water on a day off from the horse show.

Childhood friends Tom Struzzieri and Chef John Doherty reunited to open a restaurant that combined their passions and expertise, (equestrian and culinary, respectively), in the City they love the most. Why not take a trip to Manhattan and dine at HITS’ third sister company, BLACKBARN, displaying whitewashed barn board walls, steel paneling, and an elaborate overhead maze of raw crisscrossed beams, BLACKBARN might not feel so far away from the Hudson Valley after all! With two locations, take the day to explore and visit both: The Chelsea Market location is the perfect place to stop mid-day for lunch in a quiet, rustic café. For dinner, try our location in the Flatiron District across from Madison Square Park where you can choose to dine in the Tavern, the Main Dining Room, or the Chef’s Table. From East to West: The HITS FEI Tour Continues

All Photos ©ESI Photography

Already in 2018, HITS has hosted three upper-level FEI events including a Longines FEI World Cup Jumping CSI3* Qualifier at HITS Coachella, as well as the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup CSIO5*at HITS Ocala. The 2018 HITS FEI Tour continues with five more FEI Weeks, including the addition of a new FEI CSI5* in August at HITS Chicago. This new CSI5* event will be held during the End of Summer Series at HITS Chicago, August 15-19. Coupled with an FEI CSI3* event the week prior, August 8-12, and followed just two weeks later by the fourth-annual FEI CSI5* at HITS Saugerties, September 5-9, this makes for an ideal FEI event schedule leading up to the FEI World Equestrian Games. Equestrian Athletes from across the country and around the globe will have the chance to compete at two great facilities, while preparing for the World Equestrian Games which take place just after the HITS Saugerties CSI5*. “The importance of these upper-level FEI events in the United States, especially the 5* events, is paramount to keeping our riders competitive in team competitions, and at the top of the World Ranking List,” said Tom Struzzieri, President and CEO of HITS. “Last year, we had a great response to our FEI Events at HITS Chicago and think that Above: Team Canada stands proudly on the podium after an impressive victory. ©ESI Photography Top: Team Canada poses for a picture at the press conference after the qualifier with their Chef D’Equipe Mark Laskin. ©ESI Photography Middle: Francois Lamontagne, contributing to the Team Canada win in the 2018 Longines FEI Nations Cup™ Qualifier. ©ESI Photography Bottom: Thumbs-up for a skilled ride giving Nayel Nassar another win in an FEI event. ©ESI Photography

upgrading to a CSI3* and CSI5*, respectively, is just what the riders are looking for.” The CSI5* events at HITS Chicago and HITS Saugerties will each offer a $500,000 Grand Prix, plus three more FEI ranking classes held throughout the week. “Other than our Great American $1 Million Grand Prix in Ocala and our AIG $1 Million Grand Prix in Coachella, these will be two of the biggest Show Jumping weeks of the year in terms of prize money,” stated Struzzieri. “We also plan to keep the height at 1.50m, which has been popular for our AIG Million on the West Coast,” he continued. “For those prepping a Championship level horse for the WEG, or for those hoping to compete at that level someday, the 1.50m height seems appropriate for these classes this year.” The HITS FEI Tour continues into the fall as well. The National Sunshine Series held at the Desert Horse Park in Thermal, California, will host two more FEI CSI3* Weeks, October 31-November 4 and November 7-11. Week II is a Longines FEI Word Cup Jumping Qualifier, the second Qualifier that HITS will host this year. “We are delighted that this year HITS will have the opportunity to hold a second World Cup Qualifier in Thermal,” Struzzieri commented. “The World Cup is one of the most prestigious International competitions, and we are honored to continue hosting the Qualifiers for the Finals.” This year, HITS is excited to continue the FEI Tour with some of the sport’s top athletes, both four legged and two, as they make Show Jumping history. Join us at HITS Chicago, HITS-on-the-Hudson, and the National Sunshine Series to see who will top the field in the upcoming 2018 FEI CSI 3* and FEI CSI 5* events!

HITS USHJA International Hunter Derby Tour featured at: HITS Chicago, HITS Saugerties & National Sunshine

Black tall boots shining, Shadbelly tails blowing in the breeze, fences set up to four feet: It must be time for a USHJA International Hunter Derby. With total prize money up to $25,000, riders and horses are in tip-top condition and ready to ride their hearts out.

Derbies on Saturday, June 9 (Week III), wrapping up the Spring Series. Two more Derbies, each offering $25,000 in prize money, will be held during the Summer Series, Saturday July 28 (Week V) and Saturday, August 4 (Week VI). All three Derbies will be held in the Grand Prix Stadium which offers a chance to show in this feature ring prior to the USEF Junior Hunter National Championship, July 30-31, and for riders gearing up for the Platinum Performance and Diamond Mills Hunter Prix Finals at the HITS Championship, September 5-9.

The discipline of hunters is deeply rooted in tradition. The USHJA International Hunter Derby was created to bring the tradition and art of horsemanship back to the show ring stronger and better than ever. The qualifying period for the 2018 Championship is June 2, 2017, through June 1, 2018. Ten of the qualifying competitions being held in this period will be at HITS facilities and will offer $235,000 in prize money. Since the USHJA International Hunter Derby Series began, show hunters across the world have seen more of a spotlight than ever before, often featured in media and sponsorships. It has also gained a following from the public, with spectator numbers growing each year. HITS has already hosted four $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derbies in 2018, two at HITS Coachella and two at HITS Ocala, with six more on the calendar to close out the year, including three at HITS Saugerties, two at HITS Chicago, and one at the National Sunshine Series. USHJA Zone Championship Returns to HITS

All Photos ©ESI Photography

HITS has been selected to host five USHJA Zone Championships in 2018, including USHJA Children’s and Adult-Amateur Hunter Championships for Zones 1 & 2, 5 & 6, and 9 & 10, as well as the USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships for Zones 5 & 6 and 9 & 10. “We look forward to another great year of Zone Championships and are excited to be hosting two Jumper Championships and three Hunter Championships in 2018,” said Tom Struzzieri, President and CEO of HITS, Inc. “With both the Team and Individual aspect of these Championships, it’s a great opportunity for riders to experience something unique in our industry. Riders have the chance to make lifelong friendships, gain knowledge from the team Chef, and most importantly, do what they love.”

Team Experience to Advance the Sport

riders to become well-rounded horsemen on their paths to excellence.

While the partnership between the horse and rider in the Hunter/Jumper sport is profound, the opportunity to compete as a team with other riders was for many years exclusive to those at the highest levels of the Jumper discipline. Today, the USHJA is bringing the Team Championship experience to a broader array of riders across both the Hunter and Jumper disciplines.

“I think the format of these Championships is great,” said 2017 USHJA Zone 2 Chef d’Equipe James Benedetto. “It is a great place for young kids to learn. The biggest fear we have as a country is to have a rider’s first time representing the U.S. as a team member, be in the Olympic Games or some other major international competition. These Championships are a perfect way for young riders to really get comfortable and to experience this.”

Championships Introduced for Children’s and Adult Amateurs In 2013, the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association launched a Nations Cupstyle Championship for Children’s and Adult Amateur Jumper riders to give these competitors their own Championship. In 2017, the USHJA expanded the Championships to become the USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships, which provide opportunities for not only Children’s and Adult Amateur Jumper riders competing at 1.10m/1.15m, but also Junior and Amateur Jumper riders competing at 1.20m/1.25m and 1.30m/1.35m. This expansion included the development of the USHJA Emerging Jumper Rider Program, which uses these Championships to identify Jumper riders who have the skill and desire to excel in the sport, while educating these HITS Saugerties 2018 Official Show Program

The Championships, combined with the Gold Star Clinics, act as an entry point to the Show Jumping Athlete Pathway, a joint USHJA-US Equestrian effort which identifies and nurtures Show Jumping athletes as they advance through the sport to enhance future success for Olympic and international teams representing the United States. “I love to see the riders come together with excitement on their faces,”continued Benedetto, who has experience representing the U.S. internationally himself. “To be honest, I get more nervous for them than I ever did when I competed.”

Hunters Join in the Team Concept

USHJA and HITS look forward to seeing all of this year’s qualified riders at the Championships! For more information on the USHJA Hunter and Jumper Team Championships, visit USHJA.org

The Jumper team concept also inspired the Hunters to create something similar for Children’s and Adult Amateur Hunter riders in 2016, when they launched the USHJA Children’s and Adult Amateur Hunter Regional Championships, presented by SmartPak. Modeled after the Jumper championships, these new Championships offered Hunter riders a team and Individual Championship experience and a chance to earn Zone HOTY points.

Since the Championships began, HITS Horse Shows have hosted at least one of the Championships each year, and in 2018 HITS will up-the-ante by hosting Five USHJA Team Championships throughout the Summer and Fall months.

At the Children’s and Adult Amateur Hunter Championship, riders compete over two days of team and individual competition. The team competition taking place on day one includes an under saddle and two classic hunter over fences classes. Individual champions are crowned on day two after completing an under saddle, a classic hunter derbystyle course and a handy hunter course. “In 2017 I saw this competition and thought it was really cool,” said Ava Lakey, who was part of the Gold Medal Team and earned the Individual Gold Medal at the West Championships in 2017. “When we drew teams, I got one of my best friends, Misa. And I got two people whom I’d never met before, and they were so nice, and it was so much fun to ride with them. It was great to be on a team and build a relationship since we were riding together, and that was really, really fun.” HITS Saugerties 2018 Official Show Program

Riders Go the Distance at the Junior Hunter National Championships

For the ninth year, the USEF Junior Hunter National Championship – East Coast returns to HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York. This year’s Championship will take place Monday-Tuesday, July 30-31, between HITSon-the-Hudson V and VI.

To qualify for the Hunterdon Cup, a rider must have won a US Hunter Seat Medal, ASPCA Maclay, USEF Show Jumping Talent Search, or Overall WIHS Classic at a competition with a start date between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018.

The USEF Junior Hunter National Championship, established in 2001, showcases the sport’s best junior hunter riders in the nation. Riders compete in three phases: Handy Hunter, Classic, and Under Saddle, over a two-day period. Scores from each phase are calculated and weighted and the horse and rider with the overall highest score is named the Champion.

In 2017, Taylor St. Jacques and Di Samorano took home the Overall Grand Champion of the 3’6” Divisions with a score of 253.350, just hundredths of a point in front of Reserve Champion, Alexandra Pielet and Giovanni who scored a 253.300. St. Jacques dominated the podium in 2017, also taking home top honors in the USHJA Hunterdon Cup Equitation Classic. Isha Swani and Park Place would score a 244.800 to take home the Overall Grand Champion of the 3’3” Divisions, with Hallie Grimes and Custom Made claiming the Reserve Championship with a score of 243.000.

“It is great to be hosting the Junior Hunter National Championship and the Hunterdon Cup at HITS Saugerties again this year,” said HITS President and CEO Tom Struzzieri, “This event is a great opportunity to showcase up-andcoming hunter riders in the equine industry and each year you can see just how hard they work to get to this point in their riding career.” To qualify for the Championship, a horse must win a Championship or Reserve Championship in an “A” Rated Junior Hunter Division at a competition with a start date between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018, and/or be in the Top 10 in their zone in any of the 3’3” or 3’6” Junior Hunter sections as of Competitions with a start date of May 31, 2018. Along with the USEF Junior Hunter National Championship, HITS will also be hosting the USHJA Hunterdon Cup Equitation Classic on Monday, July 30. The first two rounds are held over a Classic-Style and Handy-Style Hunter course, designed to test the rider’s finesse, smoothness, and overall hunter style of riding. The final round requires the top riders to switch horses, further testing their skills and adaptability.

Nayel Nassar & Lordan Take the Blue in the 6th Annual AIG $1 Million Grand Prix

All photos ©ESI Photography

The dynamic duo of Nayel Nassar and his own Lordan claimed victory in the AIG $1 Million Grand Prix in a thrilling finale to the HITS Coachella Desert Circuit, on Sunday, March 18. The duo had also won the $100,000 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Thermal CSI3*-W earlier in the circuit, but more

but it is clear Nassar knows how to keep his horse in top form. “He is such a trier and he is small, but the jumps never feel small on him. We just want to take care of him as best we can,” Nassar said. Six riders attempted the jump-off course in pursuit of the title, and the excitement built with every round. Rowan Willis and Blue Movie went second in the jump-off and had the first clear round in a time of 45.738, setting the time to beat. He was followed by Paul O’Shea and Skara Glen’s Presence who almost had the time, finishing in 45.753, but a rail meant they’d finish behind Willis. Willis’s lead held up until the very end when Nassar and Lordan entered the ring. With a plan at hand, the duo methodically jumped, galloped and wound their way through the course in a seemingly effortless no-fault trip and stopped the timers in 44.418, nearly a full second ahead of Willis. Nassar’s excitement shone at the press conference, and his appreciation for Lordan was unmistakable. “We have an incredible partnership and at this point we go in the ring and it’s almost like we don’t have to think anymore.”

historically, this was their second HITS Million Grand Prix victory, paired with their Saugerties $1 Million Grand Prix win in 2013.

OSPHOS® (clodronate injection) Bisphosphonate For use in horses only. Brief Summary (For Full Prescribing Information, see package insert) CAUTION: Federal (USA) law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. DESCRIPTION: Clodronate disodium is a non-amino, chlorocontaining bisphosphonate. Chemically, clodronate disodium is (dichloromethylene) diphosphonic acid disodium salt and is manufactured from the tetrahydrate form. INDICATION: For the control of clinical signs associated with navicular syndrome in horses. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Horses with hypersensitivity to clodronate disodium should not receive OSPHOS. WARNINGS: Do not use in horses intended for human consumption.

As with all drugs, side effects may occur. In field studies, the most common side effects reported were signs of discomfort or nervousness, colic, and/or pawing. OSPHOS should not be used in pregnant or lactating mares, or mares intended for breeding. Use of OSPHOS in patients with conditions affecting renal function or mineral or electrolyte homeostasis is not recommended. Refer to the prescribing information for complete details or visit www.dechra-us.com or call 866.933.2472.

HUMAN WARNINGS: Not for human use. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. Consult a physician in case of accidental human exposure. PRECAUTIONS: As a class, bisphosphonates may be associated with gastrointestinal and renal toxicity. Sensitivity to drug associated adverse reactions varies with the individual patient. Renal and gastrointestinal adverse reactions may be associated with plasma concentrations of the drug. Bisphosphonates are excreted by the kidney; therefore, conditions causing renal impairment may increase plasma bisphosphonate concentrations resulting in an increased risk for adverse reactions. Concurrent administration of other potentially nephrotoxic drugs should be approached with caution and renal function should be monitored. Use of bisphosphonates in patients with conditions or diseases affecting renal function is not recommended. Administration of bisphosphonates has been associated with abdominal pain (colic), discomfort, and agitation in horses. Clinical signs usually occur shortly after drug administration and may be associated with alterations in intestinal motility. In horses treated with OSPHOS these clinical signs usually began within 2 hours of treatment. Horses should be monitored for at least 2 hours following administration of OSPHOS. Bisphosphonates affect plasma concentrations of some minerals and electrolytes such as calcium, magnesium and potassium, immediately post-treatment, with effects lasting up to several hours. Caution should be used when administering bisphosphonates to horses with conditions affecting mineral or electrolyte homeostasis (e.g. hyperkalemic periodic paralysis, hypocalcemia, etc.). The safe use of OSPHOS has not been evaluated in horses less than 4 years of age. The effect of bisphosphonates on the skeleton of growing horses has not been studied; however, bisphosphonates inhibit osteoclast activity which impacts bone turnover and may affect bone growth. Bisphosphonates should not be used in pregnant or lactating mares, or mares intended for breeding. The safe use of OSPHOS has not been evaluated in breeding horses or pregnant or lactating mares. Bisphosphonates are incorporated into the bone matrix, from where they are gradually released over periods of months to years. The extent of bisphosphonate incorporation into adult bone, and hence, the amount available for release back into the systemic circulation, is directly related to the total dose and duration of bisphosphonate use. Bisphosphonates have been shown to cause fetal developmental abnormalities in laboratory animals. The uptake of bisphosphonates into fetal bone may be greater than into maternal bone creating a possible risk for skeletal or other abnormalities in the fetus. Many drugs, including bisphosphonates, may be excreted in milk and may be absorbed by nursing animals. Increased bone fragility has been observed in animals treated with bisphosphonates at high doses or for long periods of time. Bisphosphonates inhibit bone resorption and decrease bone turnover which may lead to an inability to repair micro damage within the bone. In humans, atypical femur fractures have been reported in patients on long term bisphosphonate therapy; however, a causal relationship has not been established. ADVERSE REACTIONS: The most common adverse reactions reported in the field study were clinical signs of discomfort or nervousness, colic and/or pawing. Other signs reported were lip licking, yawning, head shaking, injection site swelling, and hives/pruritus.

Beezie Madden & Coach Win it All at the 5th Annual Great American $1 Million Grand Prix

Four-time USEF Equestrian of the Year Beezie Madden, has been competing at the Grand Prix level since 1985 and continues to add to her resume of Grand Prix wins every year. As of March 25, 2018, she became a two-time HITS Million Dollar Grand Prix winner as well, with a victory in the Great American $1 Million Grand Prix to close out the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit.

the win, riding to his mare’s strength of quick, tight turns. As they approached the last fence at a gallop, Jayne went all out in his hunt for the win, but it was not to be. The clock stopped at 47.092 giving Jayne the yellow ribbon. Madden beamed at the press conference, thanking her team and her horse for their outstanding performance. “I was really happy with how [Coach] went. I thought the course really suited him and I have high hopes for him,” she said of the 10-year old, Germanbred gelding, owned by Abigail Wexner. “Everything fell into place really nicely and I had a great support team behind me.”

“I’ve been lucky enough that this is my second win,” Madden exclaimed, recounting her win in the Saugerties $1 Million Grand Prix in 2015. “It’s amazing what he offers,” she continued, referring to HITS Owner and CEO Tom Struzzieri. “All of the venues and shows he offers - I don’t know how he does it all.” After a challenging round one, five riders would come back to jump off to find the winner of the Great American $1 Million Grand Prix. Spectators were on the edge of their seats with Lillie Keenan first in the ring, going clear aboard Super Sox and setting the time to beat at 46.229. Two rounds later, Madden, always a crowd favorite, cantered confidently into the ring aboard Coach. As she approached the first fence it was clear she was taking it up a notch, and her time of 44.479, almost a full two second faster than Keenan, established her as new leader. Charlie Jayne awaited his turn in the ring aboard Tou La Moon, knowing the pressure was on. As the final rider to jump-off, Jayne took aim at HITS Saugerties 2018 Official Show Program

Marshall & Sterling Insurance League National Finals

All photos ©ESI Photography

The Marshall & Sterling Insurance League was designed to enhance the level of competition for children and adult riders at various stages of expertise with the goal of qualifying each season for the Marshall & Sterling Insurance League National Finals. The League has grown 10 times over since its inception in 1991 and members can look forward to a year-end competition in 24 Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation divisions this year. With over 1,000 member horse shows nationwide, riders have many opportunities to compete and vie for those most sought after Marshall & Sterling League points.

HITS Saugerties will once again host the Marshall & Sterling League “Wild Card” classes at HITS-on-the-Hudson Weeks VII and VIII. These “Wild Cards” give competitors a chance to win an automatic acceptance into the 2018 Marshall & Sterling Insurance League National Finals; the top two finishers in each “Wild Card” who are not already qualified will be eligible for the Finals. This is an exceptional “last chance” opportunity for riders who may not be ranked quite as high in the M&S Standings as they had hoped and serves as a great warm-up for riders that may already be qualified for the Finals.

All 24 divisions will be represented this season at the 2018 Marshall & Sterling Insurance League National Finals to be held on September 12-16, 2018, at the pristine HITS-on-the-Hudson facility in Saugerties, New York. A Marshall & Sterling Mid-West Regional Finals will also take place at HITS Chicago; the newly renovated, state-of-theart showgrounds at Balmoral Park in Crete, Illinois during the Showplace Fall Classic I, September 12-16, 2018.

Join today to start earning points! Contact Patti@HITSShows.com or Katelyn@HITSShows.com for more information or visit HITSShows.com to join.

If you like the Marshall & Sterling Finals, you will love the HITS Indoor Championship! October 24-28, 2018 The HITS Indoor Championship, new this year, will be held at the brand new state-of-the-art Expo Center at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, New York. From October 24-28, 2018, riders from across the country are invited to compete at this new and exciting facility. This show will be part of a developmental series HITS plans to build upon through a grass-roots program that will go hand-in-hand with its Marshall & Sterling Insurance League. “This is going to be one of the best indoor equestrian facilities in the country,” stated HITS Owner and CEO, Tom Struzzieri. Many of the 24 divisions at the Marshall & Sterling Finals will be represented at the Indoor championship. We can’t wait to see you there!
