grete jalk | gj chair Design Grete Jalk, 1963. Laminated plywood. Made in Denmark by Lange Production. Designed by Grete Jalk (1920-2006) in 1963, this Laminated Chair is regarded today as the Danish designer’s best-known work. The chair, for which Jalk also created a companion side table, was realized in collaboration with the cabinetmaker Poul Jeppesen. Although it won first prize in a competition organized by the British newspaper Daily Mail during the year of its inception, the chair never went into industrial production. The expressive sculptural form of the chair, composed of two similarly shaped pieces of molded plywood, marks a late highlight in the engagement of prominent designers with this material, which had commenced in the 1930s. Due to the complexity of the chair’s design, only around 300 copies were originally produced. Only a few remain in existence today. Lange Production was chosen and authorized to launch the furniture in its original wood species, Teak and Oregon Pine with the addition of black stained ash wood. 24.8” w | 27.5” L | 29.5” h $2,500 + free shipping in the continental U.S.

paolo lucidi + luca pevere aplomb suspension lamp Design Paolo Lucidi & Luca Pevere, 2010. Concrete. Made in Italy by Foscarini. Visible concrete is part of the expressive language of modern architecture and, with Aplomb, Foscarini introduces a model that uses this material with a spirit and technology that is entirely original. The challenge was to create an incredible leap of scale: from large architectural constructions to a little suspension lamp with a thickness of just a few millimetres at its finest point, using a material that is so inflexible. The challenge has been met with impeccable ‘aplomb’, thanks to the use of special concrete that is particularly fluid in moulding and has a material effect that is both rough and, at the same time, elegant. Aplomb is a small concrete hanging lamp which creates direct, precise lighting. The concrete is offered in three, colored finishes which celebrate its personality, from the traditional grey of cement in its raw state, which adds depth to the volumes, to a stylish white hue, and a warm intense brown. Perfect for occasional tables, peninsulas and counters, either on its own or in a group. shade: 6.5” dia. | 14” h | mounting rose: 3.1” dia. | max height: 200” requires 1x60w halogen
niels bendtsen | sleeper sofa
$713 + free shipping in the continental U.S.
Design Niels Bendtsen. Steel frame, upholstery. Made in British Columbia by Bensen. The Sleeper is a contemporary sofa that easily converts into a single bed. Conventional sofa-beds involve complex, heavy systems of springs and levers that require several motions or placements. The result is inadequate spring suspension and poor cushioning that compromises comfort in sleeping or sitting. What differentiates the Sleeper from other sofa-beds is that the fully supported foam seat and back changes position in one smooth motion. Visually, the Sleeper has uncompromised clean lines, balanced proportions, tailored details and a low profile that fits in any environment. The unique mechanical hardware is buried with only a hint to its presence, not to compromise the aesthetic appearance. sofa; 80.25” L | 38.5” d | 26” h bed; 80.25” L | 42.5” d | 14” h pillows; 30” L | 6” d | 19” h $2,443 as shown + free shipping in the continental U.S.

eames aluminum group Design Charles & Ray Eames®, 1958. Aluminum, upholstery. Made by Herman Miller®. Aluminum Group chairs were originally developed in 1958 as a special project by Ray Eames for a private residence being designed by Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard. At the time, the furniture was called the “leisure group,” or “indoor-outdoor group” since it was meant to address the lack of quality outdoor furniture on the market. The seat-back suspension was a major technical achievement and represented a departure from the concept of the chair as a solid shell. Wonderfully comfortable, strong, yet lightweight, the chairs became the basis for several other Eames designs, including the Soft Pad chairs. With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the “Eames look.” The Aluminum group is available in management, side, executive, and lounge models. Their classic lines and comfortable suspension keep them in demand for all kinds of places, from contemporary homes to elegant offices to hip startups. The lounge chair features a high-back with arms and an aluminum frame with suspended upholstery. It has a 4-star base and fixed seat height. The tilt-swivel option includes a headrest upholstered in matching fabric or leather. swivel: 24.125” w | 28.5” d | 33.8” h | seat: 17” h | arms: 21.75” h tilt/swivel: 25.75” w | 32.25” d | 38.75” h | seat: 14.5” h | arms: 20” h ottoman: 21.5” w | 21” d | 18.25” h $2,228 + free shipping in the continental U.S.

bouroullec brothers alcove highback sofa Design Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2008. Chromed steel, metal frame, fiberglass reinforced plastic, polyurethane foam, polyester wool. Made in Germany by Vitra. The central idea behind the Alcove sofa is that a sofa can be much more than just a piece of furniture. This is especially true of the Alcove Highback sofa, whose side and back panels tower over the heads of those sitting in it. Sitting within the Alcove Highback, you cannot be seen or heard from the outside, and find yourself in a secluded space. Thanks to the outstanding acoustic qualities of the Alcove Highback sofa and its function as a visual screen, it creates a truly peaceful oasis - especially in spacious living areas. This effect is even more pronounced when two sofas are positioned face to face, thereby defining a room within a room. The Alcove Ottoman is a comfortable complement. The Alcove Highback love seat includes one matching backrest cushion. Optional set of 2 armrest & 1 small backrest cushions also available. sofa: 53.5” h | 64.5” L | 33” d $9,000 + free shipping in the continental U.S.

He said, ‘This is a good way to do a clock,’ and he made some utterly absurd thing. Everybody was taking a crack at it, pushing each other aside and making scribbles.... and the next morning there was this roll of drafting paper and somewhere in this roll there was the ball clock.” These clocks are produced from the original design documents from the Nelson archive with the blessings of the George Nelson estate. 13 tall | 30.5 wide | battery included $410 + free shipping in the continental U.S.

ch29 sawhorse chair Design Hans Wegner, 1952. Hardwood, upholstery, finish options. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. By the unusual construction of CH 29 Wegner achieved a couple of advantages. First of all it made it possible to build a chair as sturdy as any traditional chair but with the use of fewer parts. Another advantage was the comfort, as the construction enabled him to make the seat wider in the front, which along with the heavily curved back made the chair extremely comfortable. The cutting out in the sides of the back, the pointed legs and the elaborate execution of the joint between forelegs and hind legs are details making the sawhorse chair a distinctive and sculptural piece of furniture.
