The Homewood Type Collection of United States Coins U.S. Numismatic Experts Mike Printz, David Greenstein Imaging and cataloging - Mike Printz Layout - Aaron Berk

I first started coin collecting by looking through rolls of pennies in the 80’s searching for wheat cents. My mother indulged me by taking me to the local coin store and letting me search through boxes of coins, looking for the oldest coins I could find. Fast-forward a quarter century, and my interest in coins was rekindled as I was now able to afford some of the coins I’d always wanted to own. I began working on a Type collection, and as I honed my focus, I began looking for rarer and semikey dates (which in some cases were first year of issue) that had original color and surfaces with terrific eye appeal. It was helpful to work with well-respected dealers like Mike Printz, whom I’ve worked with for over eight years now, and who has steered me to some amazing coins. Among some of my favorites from this offering are the memorable 1921 Walker, which is well struck and wonderfully choice for the grade, and the 1855-D $5, an under-appreciated date with warm orangegold color and beautiful surfaces. My favorite coin of the group is the 1877 $20, a coin that offers proof-like surfaces both obverse and reverse and is a wonder to behold in hand. I’ve since narrowed my focus to Peace dollars and Liberty Eagles. This is truly a wonderful group of coins that are technically choice for their respective grades and exhibit excellent eye appeal. While it’s hard to part with these coins, I’m trusting they will find new owners who will appreciate them as much as I have over the years. -JW

US58871 1652 Oak Tree Shilling VF35 PCGS/CAC US58871 - Oak Tree. IN at Left; Noe-1.5, W-430, Salmon 1-A, considered to be R.7 (for die state). Lovely and very pleasing antique grey that also offers a very subtle rose and blue-green undertone. The strike overall is sharp with some light peripheral weakness. The tree is well defined, certainly for the grade. A natural area of planchet roughness is seen about the right obverse while the reverse exhibits some die rust to the right of the denomination and die crack at EW of NEW. CAC Verified. From the Homewood Collection. $8,800

US58732

1834 Classic Head

Half Cent

US58865

1857 Flying Eagle

Cent

Mint State 65

NGC

US58865 - It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Flying Eagle Cent this original and this nice - years! Superb surfaces, wonderful luster and outrageously nice color. Both obverse and reverse offer delightful colors of red-tan, vibrant golden-tan and lilac color. This Gem offers eye appeal I haven’t seen on a Flying Eagle in a very long time and is most obviously the result of careful album storage. Still in the old NGC Fatty style, first generation holder. From $4,450 the Homewood Collection.

1877 Indian

Cent

US58870 Mint State 64 Red Brown

PCGS/CAC

US58870 - Classic key date favorite and an impressive example at that. While correctly graded as Red Brown, this specimen offers an abundance of original mint red color and very nice overall eye appeal. Both obverse and reverse offer unbroken frost and original mint bloom luster. CAC Verified. From the Homewood Collection. $9,250

1916 D Mercury

Dime

US58744 XF45

PCGS/CAC

US58744 – Key date favorite in a collector friendly grade and a coin that offers very nice overall eye appeal. Coin grey with hints of pale gold and very well defined throughout. CAC Verified. From the Homewood Collection. $7,500

1876

Twenty Cent Piece

US58745 PR64

PCGS/CAC

US58745 - Nearly every example of this date in Proof I’ve seen is heavily toned and lacks any real and honest eye appeal. This specimen offers deeply reflective fields under very nicely frosted devices and, while not white, exhibits a very attractive pale gold patina. This coin is still in the old green tag holder and I’m quite confident it would achieve the Cameo designation if resubmitted since PCGS was not recognizing this at the time of grading. However, our preference is to maintain the green tag holder so we’ve elected not to resubmit the coin. CAC Verified. From the Homewood Collection. $4,950

US58925

1921 Walking Liberty

Half Dollar

US58856 Mint State 64

US58856 - Exceptionally well struck with fully rounded thumb and full, split stem. Miss Liberty’s head is remarkably crisp and well defined with complete portrait detail. Very nice luster both obverse and reverse and essentially white with a hint of pale gold to the frost. A truly lovely example of this the second lowest mintage issue in the entire series. From the Homewood Collection. $9,950

US58861

1855 D Liberty

Half Eagle $5

AU55

PCGS/CAC

US58861 – No Motto. Wonderful yellow and orange gold color with exceptional luster for the grade. With a mintage of just 22,430 and the fact the vast majority were used extensively in commerce, this is an impressive specimen. A fact worth noting, and lending testimony to the rarity, is that PCGS has only graded 2 coins Uncirculated and both are MS61. CAC Verified. From the Homewood Collection. $5,950

1877 Liberty

US58862

Double Eagle $20

MS62+

PCGS/CAC

US58862 - A popular date among Type collectors as it represents the first year of issue for this the last design of the three design Types. TWENTY DOLLARS is now spelled out about the lower reverse periphery. This coin is truly intense with unbelievably nice eye appeal and an exceptional coin from a technical grade standpoint as well. Both obverse and reverse are prooflike with intense orange and yellow gold color and outstanding luster. It’s really rather disappointing PCGS just didn’t grade this coin MS63 cause it sure is nice enough! CAC Verified. From the Homewood Collection. $6,500
