Industrial applications The Jasper Stone Company produces premium quartzite grinding media and mill liner blocks for a variety of industrial processing applications ranging from silica flour to paint pigments. The grinding media is sought after for it’s unparalleled structural integrity: it simply will not deteriorate under normal milling operations. Quartzite is one of the world’s hardest rocks. Made up of 98% silicon dioxide, it can withstand 45,000 lbs of pressure per square inch - nearly double that of granite. Quartzite was originally loose sand covering the ancient sea floor over 1.7 billion years ago. Hardened by heat and pressure, it became one of the world’s most durable stones. It’s purity, along with its inherent toughness, hardness and close-grained structure, make it an invaluable element in the construction and milling industry. Quartzite does not fail in use through shattering, as other commonly used materials do. Quartzite’s failure is only through attrition or dusting which does not pose any problems.
