Elgar’s Cello Concerto is perhaps the most beloved work in the cello repertoire. Its deeply moving melodies have touched many heartstrings including film audiences. With the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Wendy Law will perform this masterpiece under the baton of Norwegian conductor Bjørn Sagstad. The concert will also feature two symphonic works from Scandinavia - Svendsen’s folk-inspired Norwegian Rhapsody No 2 and Sibelius’ Symphony No 5, a sovereign masterpiece with divine inspiration: “God is opening his doors for a moment, and his orchestra is playing the fifth symphony.” Winner of numerous awards, Wendy Law has appeared as soloist with renowned orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Singapore Symphony, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Russian Philharmonic, Juilliard Orchestra and in venues including the Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. As an active chamber musician, she has collaborated with the Borromeo String Quartet, Yo-Yo Ma and Pamela Frank.
