Aol Mail Imap Settings You can access your email account not only on the AOL’s webmail interface, but also on your computer using any third-party email clients, and mail applications on your mobile phone for Aol mail IMAP settings. To access your AOL email account in an email client or a mobile application, you need dedicated protocols that can access the mail server to receive and send your emails. IMAP and POP are the protocols employed to retrieve your emails from the mail server, and SMTP is the protocol that forwards your email from the email client to the email server. AOL mail supports both the IMAP and POP protocols.

IMAP over POP: Usually for Aol mail IMAP settings, while setting up an AOL mail account on any email client like Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows 10 Mail, Mac Mail, or an email app on a mobile phone, the IMAP protocol is preferred over POP. The reason is that the IMAP protocol synchronizes the actions performed on the email client with the mail server. So that the

changes can be observed on the AOL mail account on any email client. However, changes made on an AOL account that is set up using POP is not updated on the mail server. IMAP allows the access of an AOL mail account on multiple email clients. But using POP, the AOL mail account can be accessed only on one email client. Also, POP downloads the emails from the Inbox alone.
