Iceland The Road Less Traveled
Puroise
purpose
As human beings we are often faced with challenging life decisions, an endless road of happiness and sorrows. Many times we have to make decisions, do we go left or do we go right? Making a decision may not always be the easiest thing to do for those struggling for direction. Sometimes we have an urge to take the most comfortable path; the road of least resistance, the road most traveled. But then the road less traveled manifest itself to us. Like a beacon of light it showcases peace and solitude. We drive to it, through it, without fear or confusion. My proposal is to take the road less traveled in Iceland. The road will lead on a 7 day road trip, around the country. I will explore bubbling geothermal springs, tumultuous waterfalls, fjords, volcanoes, glaciers, and perhaps catch the magic of the northern lights. The road will lead me to a tangible destination but it’s the intangible that will make this trip an adventure.

where
Day 1: The Golden Circle First stop, Thingvellir National Park where the Earth’s tectonic plates are being ripped apart, exploding geysers, and the impressive Gullfoss Waterfall. Day 2: Rainbows & Glaciers Rise early to catch the sunrise! Hike to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, a trail takes you behind the waterfall where you can see a 200 feet fall. Second hike of the day is Skogafoss Waterfall, another massive and beautiful waterfall only minutes away. Day 3: Icebergs & Ice Caves Breiðamerkurjökull glacier is slowly melting, with giant blue-tinted icebergs breaking off and floating into a lagoon. Drive to Crystal Ice Caves, under Vatnajokull glacier where melted water creates intricate natural ice tunnels. Day 4: Driving the Coastline Enjoy the beautiful rugged eastern fjords and hunt for northern lights. Day 5: Myvatn Geothermal Area Fáskrúðsfjarðargöng tunnel, four mile long road covered in snow. Dettifoss Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Iceland (and Europe) by water volume. Day 6: Erupting Volcanoes Observe Iceland’s erupting volcano at Bárðarbunga. Day 7: Snaefellsnes Peninsula Drive around the peninsula, enjoy the last sights of this beautiful country.
