With increasing global demand and regulations for renewable and lasting energy sources to replace fossil fuels, Ioxus ultracapacitors are an important part of the solution to more efficiently store and recycle energy. Our systems have the unique ability to repetitively store and return large bursts of energy provided by the cyclical nature of solar, wind, and wave type systems. They also provide peak power delivery when combined with low-cost battery chemistries, extending battery life by as much as a factor of four. In many applications our ultracapacitors are proven to out-perform the best batteries, without contributing to the growing problem of hazardous waste disposal associated with those batteries (especially in portable and hand-held devices). Ultracapacitors can be contained within a wind farm or other renewable energy sources, providing the energy storage component for the voltage smoothing (power conditioning) grid interface. Much like in the pitch control application, ultracapacitors provide superior economics in the electronic shock absorber (ESA) application. Unlike batteries, they have the ability to perform within a wide range of temperatures, have a high efficiency for short term energy storage, and maintain a long cycle life. They can be kept at any voltage up to their rated voltage, allowing them to be flexible to the needs and adapt to the environment on a wind farm. Ioxus ultracapacitors will generate far better ROI than any other energy storage medium when used as energy storage in renewable energy.

As the world rapidly moves towards greener modes of transportation, Ioxus is at the forefront of developing technology. Our large cell ultracapacitors and modules provide energy storage systems which significantly improve the efficiency of hybrid electric vehicles. By recycling the energy capture during braking, they lower the peak power requirements on the primary energy source. This dramatically changes the way that engines (such as the ones in mining trucks), heavy equipment, and locomotives generate energy. An Ioxus ultracapacitor stabilizes the power output of these devices, saving energy and increasing life expectancy while reducing sizing requirements for all primary energy generation systems (engines). Ultracapacitors, in hybrid drivetrains, immensely improve the reliability, efficiency, and power of the vehicle. Whether it’s lifting, mining or locomotion, Ioxus ultracapacitors can make even the difficult starting system applications more effective. They guarantee engine starting with little dependence on the state of the on-board battery’s charge and perform best under less-than-ideal environmental conditions, making the vehicle’s operation more reliable. Ultracapacitors are the most economical choice because they prolong the starting system’s service life, and reduce maintenance expenses and fuel waste.

Ultracapacitors and hybrid-ultracapacitors are the ideal clean technology for commercial and industrial use because they prolong the lifespan of other energy sources such as simple, low-cost batteries. They are lightweight, long-lasting, and their manufacture and disposal has no detrimental effects on the environment. Ioxus ultracapacitors and hybrid-capacitors provide large energy storage solutions that contain effective low cost/high power backup capabilities. Module banks of ultracapacitors can easily be integrated with a battery system to provide additional backup energy storage because they have a very similar voltage range. In addition they can take on the power functions, allowing the systems to exceed the power capacity of the battery, and deal with any abrupt or unusual system power demands. Furthermore, ultracapacitors are compact, sealed, completely maintenance free, and can be installed in low accessibility locations. Ioxus Ultracapacitors used on their own can provide the highest reliability energy buffer system on the market today. For applicaitons where ride-through power is needed from 0-30 seconds, Ioxus Ultracapacitors provide a maintenece-free transition to generator or power conditioning applications for more than 15 years.
