Write the converse of the statement. Determine if true or false. If false, find a counterexample.

‘If it is raining, then I’ll carry an umbrella.’

Objective: Justify steps to solve an equation using algebraic properties.

Adding the SAME thing to both sides of an equation.

If 3x – 5 = -2  Then…  3x = 3 

Subtracting the SAME thing from both sides of an equation.

If 5y + 2 = -9  Then…  5y = -11 

Multiplying the SAME thing by both sides of an equation.

If w ÷ 2 = -9  Then…  w = -18 

Diving the SAME thing by both sides of an equation.

If -4y = -32 Then… y=8

 

If a = b, then either a or b may be substituted for the other in any equation (or inequality).

a and b represent the entire side of the equation

If y = (2x – 3) and 3x + 2y = 7  Then, 3x + 2(2x – 3) = 7 

a (b + c) = ab + ac 3(2x – 5 ) = 6x -15

a=a ∠B ≅ ∠B

Anything equal to ITSELF.

If a = b, then b = a.

If ML = GT, then GT = ML

Difference between symmetric and reflexive?

Please complete in two column format  Given: 3x = 6 - ½x  Prove: x = 12/7 

Please complete in two column format  Given: x + 5y = 3 + 4x and y = 2  Prove: x = 7/3 

Given: 3y + 4 = (2y)/ 5  Prove: y = -20/13 
