Integrated Urban Design Project Water Strategies Sustainable waterManagement management strategies
The proposal aims at creating a sustainable drainage system, in which clean rain-water is collected and reused for various purpose. Meanwhile, the park water collection create habitat for wider biodiversity.
Key Area water collection from roof tops and inner court yards Permanent water, clean water collected from roof-top building, inner court yards. Street water filtration through bio-retention swale Water run-off slow down through green space Clean water collection underground tanks, to be reused for irrigation and toilet flush etc... Overflow clean water from roof-top and inner court yards to be directed through swale system via pipe seperated from the main sewage pipe. Road surface, parking etc run-off colection through pipe system Drainage area connecting to main sewage system. Collect overflow run-off water from swale in the event of heavy raining.
Clean and polluted run-off strategies Roof-top, inner court yard, pedestrian street and green space. Swales and pipe To be reused for irrigation and toilet flushing.

Planting design and management Planting design with seasonal interest
The Dynamic Urban woodland management Year 1
Watering directly after planting. Watering plants once every two months the first year of establishment Herbaceous species are chosen for weed suppress purpose; therefore, handpulling maybe appropriate to control weeds if any for 3 times a year.
1m diameter around new planted trees to be kept free from competing vegetation in the first 3 years.
Year 15
Herbaceous perennials are allowed to mingle through ferns planting area. Other than that, any other weed species such as Ivy or Bramble should be removed in the first 3 years. Dead fronds of deciduous ferns will be remove to open up the ground for spring flowers.
All herbaceous perennials and grasses as well as Dogwoods (Cornus alba ‘Kesselringii’ and Cornus sanguinea ‘Midwinter Fire’ ) are cut back every February for winter interest as well as maintain its cultivar colour.
50% of Hazel will be coppiced next year in its 8 year rotation.
Trees: Some trees will be thinned to allow space and reduce competition between tree layer. Cut trees will be left on site for ecological benefits.
Woodland ground cover: Maintain the balance between fern structure and moss, fungi as well as bramble and ivy. Weed species can colonised up to 50% of the total areas.
Rhus typhina is allowed to spread over space to certain extent.
Keep ongoing management with herbaceous perennials to maintain its original design display. Horticultural skill may needed such as dividing any unhealthy and invasive species or replant damaged and death one. These activities can be done every 4 years along side with coppiced periods.

Deep pond mosaic Flora: wide range of wetland species ranging from emergent to aquatic plants, including some rare species such as Frogbit (t morsusranae), Bladderworts (Utricularia sp.), some pondweed and so on.
Natural Reserve and Visitor Centre
Fauna: Some species such as fish, dragonflies, waterfowl and birds are also interested in deep pond habitat.
Wet meadow
Pond landscape Design Wide draw-down zone allowing more wetland flora and fauna to thrive. Marginal vegetation can create ideal habitat for small invertebrates and amphibians to shelter from fish. Islands can provide safe feeding and nesting shelter for wetland birds and other species to avoid their terrestrial predators. Deep water provide extensive habitat for diverse range of submerged vegetations with some rare charophytes and pond weeds (Williams, et al., 1997). Furthermore, fish and wetland birds are also interested in deep water habitat.

Green Roof Design Woodland clearance will attract more insects which provide opportunities for bat to forage
Rotating coppiced with standard process will encourage more space of woodland clearance and light through plant canopies. Therefore, more diverse type of ground flora can thrive.
Green roof is designed with different soil depth to create diverse range of vegetation in the roof. Shallow substrate will be colonized by short vegetations or bare ground, providing opportunities for butterflies to bask and breed. In contrast, deep substrate encourages wide range of flora to thrive.
