GMI+ 6.5 assembly (Sensor + bracket + Control box/Keyboard) PCB GMI+

1. Description This Technical bulletin introduces the new hard- and firmware release 6.5 of the GMI+ milk yield indicator. As from now, all GMI+ milk yield indicators will be equipped with version 6.5 firmware. Version 5.7 is not available anymore. Version 5.7 PCB’s and version 6.5 PCB’s can be mixed within one installation, unless the customer requires the new 6.5 features (See chapter 7). This new version includes: • New keyboard foil, in BouMatic style • Integrated Conductivity measurement, to indicate possible cell count problems • Improved handling of short circuits and bad and open connections on electrical outputs • New keyboard functions: Standby mode of the PCB (for service purposes) Forced Cleaning mode 2. New keyboard foil From this version, all new GMI+ assemblies will be delivered in the new BouMatic graphics style.

Power supply Although the GMI+ system can work with several types of power supplies, BouMatic strongly recommends the BGM 13VDC/20A switch-mode power supply (D390748). See drawing below. Adjust the 13VDC/20A power supply to 14,0 VDC. When using a switch-mode power supply, setting dCAC must be set to 0. Maximum 12 GMI+ units can be powered by one 13VDC/20A power supply. In case of more than 1 power supply: connect the 0VDC outputs of all power supplies with each other (1x 2.5 mm2 blue). Connect 0VDC to Earth (1x 2.5 mm2 blue).

5. Wiring Diagram General notes: • The GMI+ system requires a good mains earth connection (< 6 Ohm). • Keep cables as short as possible. • Avoid tapping blocks to lengthen cables. • To avoid stray voltages, all metal parts in the parlour have to be grounded (earth). • Avoid any ragged connections. Slider connectors inside TL pulsators and Isolator TL’s must be tightened precisely.

For vacuum shut-off, 1 Isolator TL (D494170) is used to operate the DV5 valves (D480080) of 2 stalls. 1 side of an Isolator TL is connected to output E5 of a GMI+. The other side of the Isolator TL is connected to output E5 of the next stall. So a 2x6 installation requires only 6 Isolator TL’s.

7. New features: 7.1 Conductivity measurement • This version of GMI+ is equipped with conductivity measurement to give an attention based on the somatic cell count of the measured milk. Be aware that it’s just a rough indication. BGM doesn’t accept any responsibility for eventually not showing a cell count attention on cows which have a high somatic cell count. • If the GMI+ system records a high conductivity value (> iEdG) for a short period of time, the • •

display shows SCC1, alternating with the milk yield. If the GMI+ system records a high conductivity value (> iEdG) for a long period of time, the display shows SCC2, alternating with the milk yield. Setting iEnA enables (1) or disables (0) conductivity measurement.

Technical Bulletin #BGM-50 GMI+ version 6.5 Hardware and Firmware.doc

• •

Setting iEdG sets the attention threshold level. The attention level can be set in between 100000 and 600000 somatic cells (approximately) in steps of 10000 cells. Default is 300000. Setting idEL sets the first milk not considered for conductivity measurement. Default is 0.3 Kg. Conductivity measurement starts above this milk yield.

7.2

Standby mode

When in milking mode (detached), the GMI+ can be put in Standby mode by pressing the button for 2 seconds. All outputs become powerless and the display switches off.

button shortly to restart the PCB. It shows the version number (U6.5) followed by Press the OK. After 2 seconds the PCB is in milking mode. Ready to use.

7.3

Forced Cleaning mode

When in Pre-Clean mode (display shows

PrCL), the GMI+ can be put into real Cleaning mode by

button for 1 second until 00.00 appears. Release the button and CLn will pressing the appear. This option can be used in emergency situations when the milk/clean switch or wash programmer is not working correctly. •

Press the

button shortly to turn the PCB back into milking mode. Ready to use.

8. Existing features (Similar to version 5.7) 8.1 Pulsation control • This version of GMI+ can operate a GM Lectron TL pulsator (or any other 12VDC pulsator). • Adjustable pulsation rate (M PM) and ratio (M E1, M E2). • Automatic Offset calculation (o-F = 1), for optimal pulsation. Front

8.2 •

Central Milking / Cleaning mode This version of GMI+ can be put into Milking and Cleaning mode by a single switch, or by a wash programmer like the Aquastar (CN9/1 – CN9/2).

• •

The display shows CLn when the GMI+ is in Cleaning mode. When switch to Cleaning mode, pulsation starts after ‘Pulsation delay in Cleaning mode’ seconds. (t1). In Cleaning mode, pulsation runs at 40 pulses per minute (C PM) with a 50/50 ratio (C E1, C E2). In Cleaning mode, pulsation stops after ‘Pulsation duration in Cleaning mode’ minutes. (t2). At the same moment, all electric outputs on the PCB become powerless.

Milk Sweep Milk Sweep releases the remaining milk from the long milk tube after detaching, by opening the shut-off valve for a short time. Default waiting time between detaching and Milk Sweep is 15 seconds. (C2 = 15). Default open time of the shut-off valve is 1,5 seconds. (C3 = 1,5). To disable the Milk Sweep feature, setting C3 must be set to 0.

8.4 • •

Improved Re-attachment procedure When setting t-rA is set to 30 seconds or more, after re-attachment within this time the milk yield is added to the actual yield. This is useful when there is a kick-off or cluster fall-off. The initial delay after re-attachment within time t-rA is 30 seconds (fixed).

8.5

Improved Pre-Clean procedure

button for 3 seconds, the cylinder releases the cluster without vacuum When pressing the and the cluster can be placed into the wash-jetters. This can be done even when other stalls are still milking. The display shows

PrCL when the GMI+ is in Pre-clean mode.

8.6

Improved Auto/Manual mode

• •

The function of the left LED has changed: When the GMi+ is in automatic mode the LED OFF during the initial delay. After the initial delay (setting tN C) the LED blinks.

When pressing the

button, the GMi+ switches to manual mode and the LED

is

turns ON.

Compatibility with Version 5.0, 5.7 and 6.0 The PCB of the GMI+ 6.5 is compatible with GMI+ 5.0. By just placing a jumper (dealer supplied) on J1, the PCB is in 5.0 mode. An open jumper means the PCB is in 6.5 mode. After changing from 6.5 into 5.0 or from 5.0 back into 6.5, the settings have to be reset to default values. Use the dEF setting (dEF = 1). There is one major difference with an old 5.0 PCB: The new PCB shows CLn when in cleaning mode. The new PCB is also compatible with versions 5.7 and 6.0. PCB’s versions 5.7, 6.0 and 6.5 can work together in the same parlour, although some settings are not the same. (EUCC ,T-CC, iEnA, iEdG and iDel) Some 5.7 PCB’s already contain the Conductivity Measurement. If the settings iEnA, IEdG and idEL are accessible, conductivity measurement can be activated. The partnumber of a spare PCB 5.0/6.5 remains the same: 10000005.
