Jaycees Make Thanksgiving Bright Currently in its first year, the Hudson County Jaycees has been steadily organizing community events that its members hope will improve the lives of county residents. The group’s most ambitious event took place on Nov. 23 when 350 families living in public housing in Hoboken and Jersey City benefitted from the Jaycees’ free turkey giveaway.

The turkeys were provided by Atlantic Coast Media Group, which donated one turkey for each of its 350 employees. Andrew Surwilo and Thomas Shipley are the co‐CEOs of Atlantic Coast, a Jersey City‐based firm.

“Tom and I feel that a great way to express our thanks at growing to 350 employees is to donate 350 turkeys to the community for Thanksgiving,” said Surwilo. “This is only the beginning of our partnership with outstanding civic organizations like the Jaycees as we continue to look for opportunities to help our neighbors here in Hudson County.” The Jaycees’ first stop of the day was the Steward Apartments, a Jersey City Housing Authority building, where seniors were treated to a traditional Thanksgiving lunch. U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez joined the housing authority in thanking the Jaycees and Atlantic Coast Media Group for organizing the event and providing a Thanksgiving meal for so many. Following a stop at Curries Woods in Jersey City, the group delivered more turkeys at the Hoboken Housing Authority.

“As a member and strong supporter of the Jaycees, I believe that young professionals are not only the future of business in our county, but also the path to improving the quality of life for many of our residents,” said Carmelo Garcia, executive director of the Hoboken Housing Authority. “This is a dedicated group of individuals who wants to see Hudson County thrive.” Zach Edelman, president of the Hudson County Jaycees, thanked Atlantic Coast and the housing authorities for coming together to benefit the needy. “It is times like these where the Jaycees will continue bring people and groups together

to address the needs of the community,” he said. “We always welcome hearing about opportunities from the public where we can focus our attention.”
