Schedule of Classes Mime and Clowning Ages 10-14 Discover your inner clown in this hilariously fun class. We’ll learn mime techniques like pulling ropes and creating walls, plus learn to create a comic character. Students will create their own comic performance pieces.

Page to Stage Ages 8-10 Have you ever wanted to bring your favorite story to life? Students will each share a story and the class will choose one to stage as a play. The play will be entirely student-generated as they use their voices and bodies to create the characters, environment and world of the story.

Instructor: Dano Madden Cost: $160 Tuesday, 3:30pm to 4:30pm; 9/28 to 11/16

Playwriting Ages 12-15 Students will learn the basics of playwriting and the power of their own voices to tell stories. The course will culminate in staged readings of short plays.

Adventures in Storytelling Ages 4-5 An exciting introduction to drama! We will dive into some of the best children’s stories, bringing imagination to life through movement, sound, costumes, and props.

Instructor: Lauren Singerman Cost: 150 Wednesday, 3:30pm to 4:15pm; 9/29 to 11/17

Improvisation and Theatre Games Ages 6-7 This class explores physical, vocal, and ensemble work in bringing imagined scenes and stories to life. Students build confidence, learn problem solving, and collectively activate their imaginations in a fun and safe environment.

BEING on Stage Ages 7-9 Students will learn the fundamental tools needed for ‘BEING’ on stage. Theatre exercises, improvisations and scenes will teach the students about physical awareness, spacial relationship, group dynamics and ‘being present’. This class improves overall awareness, creativity and expression and will create presence on stage. And it’s lots of fun!

Instructor: Erwin Maas Cost: $160 Thursday, 4:45pm to 5:45pm; 9/30 to 11/18

Technique of Acting Ages 10-14 Students learn the fundamental techniques for playing a character—actions, obstacles, and objectives. Using ‘open scenes’ and improvs, students progress to working on scenes from plays.

MST Faculty Dano Madden Dano is an award-winning playwright and director. As a teaching artist in Idaho and an instructor with Idaho Theatre for Youth, he taught classes in playwriting and improvisation and directed productions with kids K-12. Dano is an adjunct professor of playwriting at Rutgers University and Stockton College. Publications: Samuel French Inc., Playscripts Inc. and Applause Books.

Erwin Maas Erwin is a theatre teacher and director from the Netherlands. He holds an MFA in Directing from Columbia University and a Masters in Drama-Teaching, Acting & Directing from the Theatre Academy in Holland. He has taught and directed children, teens, and adults throughout Europe, Australia and America.

Annie McAdams Annie holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Washington. She has worked regionally and offBroadway and is an MST company member. She has taught children’s theatre at Coyote Jr. High in Seattle and Hoboken Charter School and adult acting at the University of Washington.

Chris O’Connor Chris is Artistic Director of MST. He holds a BFA in Acting from Carnegie-Mellon University and an MFA in Directing from Rutgers University. He has taught at Hoboken Children’s Theatre, The West Kortright Center, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Colgate University, and is currently on the theatre faculty at Rutgers University.


Jennifer Ring Jennifer is an actress, writer and teaching artist, currently working with the New Brunswick Theater Festival. She teaches classes for NBTF through the Perth Amboy Department of Recreation and at New Brunswick High School. She has also taught acting, voice and speech at the college level and is a founding company member of Red Stage Theatre Company in Burlington, VT. Jen holds an MFA in Acting from Rutgers University and a BA from the University of Maryland.

Lauren Singerman

As a teacher and dialect coach, Lauren has taught at Ellis Island Theater, Hoboken Children’s Theater, Hoboken Historical Museum, and ACTeen. As an actor, Lauren has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Epic Theatre Ensemble, Two River Theater Company, Vital Theatre Company, The Artful Conspirators, and Kitchen Theatre Company, among others. MFA in Acting, Rutgers University.
