The CX valve: Superior with hydrogen
Hydrogen gas needs a special valve. Compressor operation with hydrogen or hydrogen rich gases is related to typical load patterns with subsequent characteristic damages in conventional compressor valves.

an extensive amount of lubrication in order to improve gas tightness. Due to
clogged flow channels resulting
the low density of hydrogen, however,
in higher power consumption and
the oil is only partially carried with the

gas flow. This leaves a considerable amount of oil film sticking to the valves. In addition, H2-compressors are commonly equipped with an on/off control. In these cases the oil gathers in the cylinder during idling and has to be pushed through the discharge valves when loading is resumed, thus causing additional load. Contamination Light gases such as hydrogen do not contribute to the self cleaning of flow channels which are therefore often clogged by debris, resulting e. g., from catalyst degradation. This factor leads to reduced compressor efficiency.
