Hospital ranks among top 20 in the country for orthopedics and top 40 for pulmonology and lung surgery.
Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) is one of the top hospitals in the country for orthopedic and pulmonary and critical care according to the 2024-2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list.
U.S. News ranks LVH among the top 20 hospitals in the nation for orthopedics and 40th for pulmonology and lung surgery.
LVH also ranks as the top hospital in the region for the 11th consecutive time and sixth among Pennsylvania’s top 10 hospitals.
Additionally, U.S. News rated LVH as “high performing” in four specialties and 16 procedures and conditions. Each “high performing” rating means LVH is considered among the top 10% for that rated specialty.
U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Only 11% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals ranking. Hospitals awarded a “best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.
“Providing world-class care to our community is something we have done for 125 years, and this recognition shows LVH is continually evolving to meet the needs of our community,” says Brian A. Nester, DO, MBA, Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) President and Chief Executive Officer. “I am so proud of the colleagues who make this incredible achievement possible and I thank them for providing nationally ranked care to the people we are here to serve.”
The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings rely on information provided to Medicare claims and is not reliant on self-reported data. Additionally, its methodology puts significant focus on evaluating the quality of care provided and considers patient acuity and volumes.
In addition to being ranked 20th in the nation for orthopedics and 40th for pulmonology and lung surgery, LVH earned a “high performing” rating in four adult specialties:
Gastroenterology and GI Surgery
Geriatrics
Neurology and Neurosurgery
Urology
LVH also is listed as “high performing” in 16 Common Adult Procedures and Conditions tracked by U.S. News:

Aortic valve surgery
Chronic and obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Colon cancer surgery

“For 35 years, U.S. News has been a leading resource for patients navigating their health care decisions,” says Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis and Managing Editor, U.S. News & World Report. “The ‘high performing’ designation acknowledges hospitals that consistently deliver high-quality care for specific medical procedures and conditions. This recognition highlights their expertise and commitment to patient well-being.”
The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings are designed to assist patients in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common conditions and procedures.
