May 5, 2023- Pocono Mountain West High School SADD group hosted a Safety Day Carnival where students could learn about what first responders do. MedEvac, State Police Stroudsburg, Pocono Mountain Regional EMS, Coolbaugh Twp Vol Fire Company, J & J Towing and the Monroe County 9-1-1 dispatchers were there to show and demo equipment they use.
State Farm Insurance sponsored a driving simulator for the students to have a simulated experience with impaired driving. Great job to the SADD group who did all the work to put this together and make it a fun day for the students!
EMS Week is filled with appreciation and honors for Emergency Medical Service professionals with St. Luke’s recognizing the Pocono Mountain Regional EMS team of Steve Keyes and Jarrod Seaman for the fastest “door to balloon time” throughout St Luke’s health network May 26th at the Iron Pigs baseball game. This means that our crew was able to identify that the patient was having a STMI (heart attack) and alert the receiving hospital.
ST is part of the EKG waveform where EMS professionals can identify the heart attack. When this part of the waveform is elevated or depressed there is ischemia or injury to the heart from lack of blood flow from a build up of plaque within the artery.
LIFESAVING SPEED
Door refers to when the patient gets to the door of the hospital. Balloon refers to the STENT placed into the block artery. The standard time frame is within 90 minutes for STENT placement at the hospital. PMREMS time was 29 minutes!
