THE FIGHTING SPIRIT AWARD A memorial award established by former Head Coach Fran Kalafer in 2005, in honor of her mother Ruth Kalafer, The Fighting Spirit Award is given annually to a volleyball student-athlete that displays the most “fighting spirit” during the course of a season. Kalafer will make a donation, in the name of the recipient, to the Leukemia Foundation each year. In addition, the team partners with 1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Coalition to host the Spike Out Breast Cancer Volleyball Tournament each spring.
