in Rose Gold Metallic are the perfect color to dress a casual outfit up a tad bit. The color just sounds fancy! It’s a comfortable staple for sunny days and an effortlessly polished alternative to the basic flip-flop. I know I highlighted Tory Burch, but another sandal go-to is Jack Rogers Thong Sandal in Platinum. These beauties have a whip stitched trim detail in a hand-laced style, also dressing up a casual spring outfit. 1.

off the Céline craze! Célfie! 2. These Ray Bans are a little different than the rest. The aviators are the most popular style of Ray Ban purchased. The newest “mirror and flash” lenses are extremely popular among fashion bloggers and celebrities. These green mirror lenses are so fun for spring and summer. They can be a bit pricey, but are definitely worth the investment over the generic lookalike. These will add a bright pop of color to your outfit and would look perfect with the graphic tee! 3.

orange-coral Lippy in Jaffa is the perfect shade for the spring. They come in several other colors to style with your outfit of the day. They are a little more expensive than your average lip-gloss, but this is a great buy because it will stay on longer than the average lip-gloss. 4. Kendra Scott earrings are a spring essential! Their new Alexandra and Alex collection is a big hit! These Alex in Abalone Shell Kendra’s are a proud addition to my jewelry box. The other most popular Alexandra style is in Magenta. Yes, a vibrant and playful stone! You won’t want to be caught without these, but I won’t stop you at just these. Also, take a peak at the neon collection! The summer sorority slogan might as well be “If it isn’t neon it shouldn’t be on.”

has made us all the more closer. Being that there were so many of us, it was difficult to find that much seating so we had to join three of the largest tables together just to Pi Beta Phi be able to fit everyone. The first table in the corner of the room was set up for learning how to make a mojito. At the next table, a margarita. And following that was the bloody mary station, and lastly the cosmopolitan. Behind these tables was the general manager of the restaurant and although not a professional, he had bartended in his previous years and showed to all of us that he was very capable and experienced. It only took until after the first drink was made that we learned whoever raised their hand the fastest, got the drink he had just prepared in front of us. You can bet I was the one to raise my hand when the time came around to the bloody mary! After finishing all four of the drinks mentioned above, the girls and their moms continued to mingle and chat in the room before we were made to leave as the seven o’clock shift was arriving and starting to file in. On Saturday, my mom, sister and I went to the park and later, as it was “national margarita day,” we celebrated accordingly and finished off the night relaxing and watching movies back at the hotel. Come Sunday morning, we got up early and went to the last event of the weekend, the mom’s brunch and jewelry trunk show at the alumnae club on campus. Thankfully this year’s attire was casual unlike years past! We ate and chatted, looked around at some jewelry, and then chatted some more before it was already time to go. And although we were sad to say goodbye as usual, it was time for my mom to get back on the road and head home. Being that it was my last mom’s weekend, I couldn’t help but be a little tearful. However, I know that my mom will continue to come back for my little sister and perhaps I might just join them!
Leah HOFFMAN
Every year toward the end of February, Pi Phi hosts a mom’s weekend in which many fun activities and events are put on for the chapter to experience with their mothers. Whether it’s a jewelry making class or sitting and relaxing together at the hotel, mom’s weekend is a special time to share with our mothers what Pi Phi is all about. Each year, the activities and events are different for each day and night of the weekend. This year on Friday evening, Sky View, the mock restaurant on top of the Bank of America building for REM majors, put on a cooking class, one at 5:00pm and the next shift at 7:00pm. Because we had plans with some girls and their moms after the class, we decided on the five o’clock slot. On first arriving, we were given drink tickets for the evening and were directed into the kitchen where the head chef was step-by-step teaching us how to make the Italian potato pasta Gnocchi and mini pizzas. Though because the kitchen was so small, only being meant for employees, girls and their moms began to migrate out into the main room to eat what we just learned how to prepare. Once we got our plates, I noticed all the girls from my pledge class with their moms walking in and was reminded all over again why mom’s weekend is so much fun. I have shared being a Pi Phi with these girls and their mother’s for almost four years now and that bond

I’d even go as far as to say it’s crucial. Children have very young, impressionable minds and whether you think so or not, they are completely influenced by their surroundings. They mimic what they see and hear.
aBigaiL HERNANDEZ
When we volunteer at places with children, it is our duty to help shape them into better citizens of our society. It is even more important when there are children of a different race, class, or with disabilities, because this is an opportunity to teach all the other kids that children with different conditions or appearances are still completely normal. I volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club recently and my sisters and I decided to take them out on the basketball court so they could draw on the pavement with chalk. It was a fun, simple activity to have them outside on a nice day, keep them busy, and let them express their creativity. There happened to be a little girl with a walker because she has a lame leg. When she asked to go outside, I’ll admit I felt a little hesitant because the path from the building to the basketball court was long and bumpy, but I didn’t want to keep her from joining her group of friends. I immediately felt ashamed for my hesitation because I had preconceived notions about this little girl, thinking that she wouldn’t be able to do something. Yet I had just met this girl; she knew her own body and limitations better than I would, she wouldn’t be asking to join the rest of the kids outside if she knew she wasn’t capable of doing it. It
wasn’t up to me to decide what her body could and couldn’t take - it was hers. It is this mentality that able-bodied people often have when it comes to people with disabilities. It wasn’t just me who was going to be a role model to these kids to prevent them from thinking disabled people are limited, but this little girl would be a role model too. As the girl walked onto the pavement, I saw her bend down to get a chalk and position herself on the floor along with the rest of her classmates, all on her own. Contrary to what the majority of people think (and I have been guilty of it too) disabled people aren’t helpless. They can do anything an able-bodied person can. They may need a little help here and there, but they’re not completely dependent on others or fragile, and should always be treated with respect. While we were coloring on the sidewalk with her, even laying her on the ground to trace her outline, which she loved, another child approached us and asked us what was “wrong with her.” One of my sisters calmly informed the other child that nothing was wrong with her, because there wasn’t. Just because she is disabled doesn’t mean there is something wrong with her. We told the child that she just needed a little more help at times to walk, which is why she had her walker, but that was all the explanation given. We used clear, calm voices and didn’t try to be “sensitive” to the girl because we didn’t want her to feel like she should be ashamed of her disability. The child didn’t seem to question it further and continued playing. This is the type of attitude that we as adults and role models to children should have towards all people, but especially those who are “different.” It is important to acknowledge that they are “different” so as not to erase their identity, but never treat them as if they are abnormal because normal is a label often used incorrectly. Just because a child is a different race or class or anything, doesn’t mean they aren’t normal. If we can continue to learn this ourselves and teach children these important lessons through simple conversations like the one I wrote about above, then we can really make a difference in how this generation grows up to be tolerant, better people.

S T U Die 5. Make flash cards! Seeing the information in less overwhelming increments is incredibly valuable to the visual learner. 6. Do outlines before tackling journals, essays, or major papers. 7. Pay special attention when your teacher or textbook mentions “key words, main ideas, and supporting detail.” Auditory This type of learner is most successful when they hear the material. Do you work well in groups? Are you good at oral exams? Do you enjoy telling stories? Are you able to easily recall lecture content? If so, you are likely an auditory learner. 1. Ask your professor if you can record their lectures. Listen to them when you’re reviewing the material. 2. Listen in class. Remember, you’re a lecture-sponge, so take advantage of your gift and pay attention to your professor, not Facebook. 3. Ask questions and make comments (when appropriate) in class.
I had three tests this week… and what has felt like three hours of sleep to go along with them. My sleep deprivation (read: hilarious delirium) made me realize I have a problem, and it won’t take NASA to solve it.
4. Talk out loud when you’re studying. Yeah, you might look a little crazy, but who cares, you’re going to crush that test.

5.
Repeat information with your eyes closed.

6. Have some fun with it and make up rhymes when you need to memorize things. Play it back in your mind when you need to recall it during the test.
Leslie is a sophomore studying psychology. You may contact her at leslie.moseley@ttu.edu.
7. Study groups are very helpful for you, so take the initiative and get a few people from class to meet up before the test. Make it a regular re-cap session if it’s helpful for everyone in the group to talk it out.
It was hard for me to admit that I don’t learn things as easily as I thought, so I went to work to figure out what I can do to change my stuDYING to studying. What I learned is that I simply have a different learning-style than I thought I did. Talking with others, I realized I wasn’t the only one who was confused on the best way to study either. So, I’ve compiled some of the telltale signs of the three different learning-styles, to hopefully give you a clear indication of where you fall on the spectrum. When you find your style, you’ll be able to easily apply the tricks to your study routine, which will help waste less time and retain the info better. I’ve already been able to (successfully!) take the suggestions and use them in class, while I’m studying, and on test-day, and I want you to share in that victory with me. There are three general categories that we can fall under as learners: Visual, Auditory, or Kinesthetic. Visual This type of learner is most successful when they can physically see the material at hand. (This is how I learn best.) Do you notice details? Are you generally quiet in class? Do you like to read or draw? Have a vivid imagination? If this is you, welcome to the club, and try these tricks to study most effectively: 1.
Study solo. Trust me, group studying is not our thing.
2.
Use abbreviations when writing notes (i.e., &, w/out, b/c, etc.)
3. Read material before and after the lecture. Just scan your notes for a quick reminder, this isn’t meant to hurt your head— The more often you look at the material, the easier you’re making it for your brain to recall the information when it really matters. 4. It’s better to scan through chapters, but don’t skip the side bar information and diagrams.
Kinesthetic This final type of learner is most successful when they move while they study. Are you an athlete, an actor, an artist, or the Energizer Bunny himself? If yes, chances are that this is how you learn best. Try doing the following when studying to maximize your learning! 1. Flash cards are your friends too! Write them out old school-style, or type them up using the website “StudyBlue” or the flashcard app on your phone. Memory games can also be very helpful, as well. 2. Walk, pace, or tap it out. When you’re studying, walk or pace around while you’re looking at the material. There’s no shame in a victory-lap around Market Street (Yes, the grocery store. They have a great area for studying and are open 24 hours a day!) just be sure you don’t run into a table… or a person. If it’s not socially acceptable to move around in your environment, tap your toes or fingers; just be respectful of others so they don’t think you’re totally annoying. 3. You also learn well by listening, so ask your professor if you can record their lectures. 4.
Take lab classes when you can; the definition of moving and learning!
5. Study in short increments. You have a lot of energy, so study for a bit, then take a quick break. Dance-it-out, do some jumping jacks, or play a quick game on your phone, then get back to work. You go, Glen Coco. To say, “Good riddance, anxiety.” I would consider myself to be a pretty “chill” person most of the time, but this past week, ehh…not so much. (Just ask my best friend… Sorry, Rach.) The mild anxiety I was feeling was not fun at all, and I’m not interested in experiencing the real-thing, so I learned some ways to avoid and/or calm anxiety, whether it’s felt while studying or during the actual exam:

While you’re studying—
studying… A new piece, please.
o Make a cup of chamomile or green tea. Both are science-backed to help you relax.
o Read the directions carefully and take it one question at a time. If you don’t know an answer, skip it and come back—No sweat.
o Take a two-minute break to pray, meditate, or do some yogic breathing. o Remember: you are not defined by your grades. Study to the best of your ability, but ultimately a number or letter doesn’t change one thing about who you are as a person. o If you can focus with music, play something calming in the background. o Chew gum and save a piece for later! Psychologists have found when you chew the same flavor of gum while studying, as well as during your test, you can recall information more easily. o Drink more water, eat healthy, and exercise. Nothing you haven’t heard before, but the mental, emotional, and physical difference you’ll feel is massive. While you’re taking the test— o Wake up a little earlier to make time for breakfast, move a little slower getting ready, and get to class early. o You’ve studied and are prepared, so go in with positivity and confidence.
o Remain fixed in that positive mentality. You are doing your best, and that’s all you can to do. After the test— o Write down the studying tricks that helped, and didn’t help, you during the test. Modify your study technique for the next test to do even better. o Celebrate your efforts! Whether that means hanging out with friends or taking a really great nap, you worked hard, regardless of the grade you get. o Don’t be discouraged if you don’t reach your grade-goal, keep pressing on. Go to your professor’s office hours and ask them to go over the test or material you’re confused on. Hard work is rewarded, so go all-in for your next test. Whatever your grade ends up being, just knowing that you tried your best (as cheesy as it sounds) can let you rest. Congratulations in advance, friend!
o Take a few deep, slow breaths. Take out that same-flavor of gum you chewed while

It’s absolutely You may contact her at impossible to learn because caroline.campbell@ttu.edu. you cannot understand a word they are saying. This is the class that you have no problem skipping because you figure you just sit there dazed and confused anyway. There’s no point in going because there is absolutely no learning involved. When you are in this professor’s class, the students all look at each other with the same panicked, confused look because no one knows what the heck is going on. You say to your fellow classmates “wait, what did they say?” at least 5 times a class. If you rely on visually learning by what they write on the board, forget it. Their handwriting usually just adds to the confusion. If you need them for anything, you will probably find them smoking a cigarette out in front of the building. Not stereotyping, but I’ve found this situation to be true most of the time. 2. The surprisingly cool and normal Professor This is the professor who is actually somewhat normal. You don’t mind going to their class because you find it to be actually mildly entertaining and beneficial to your education. This professor is probably married, with children. They don’t put up with any bullsh**t because they know that you’re not actually “sick,” you just have a horrible hangover and couldn’t drag yourself out of bed to make it to class. They are entertaining and usually fill up class time with funny stories about their personal lives to make it a little more bearable. These professors are also good to talk to. You don’t mind staying after class to ask questions because they are always happy and willing to help. Yes, there are some normal professors out there, believe it or not. 3. The over-dramatic failed actor/actress I’m sorry, but the classroom is not a stage and we are not your audience. This is the professor who over-dramatizes EVERYTHING. All of a sudden a lecture over cells becomes a Broadway performance. They use their hands to explain everything in the most flamboyant way possible. While this professor is not necessarily boring, they make you feel extremely uncomfortable to look at because they are just trying way too hard. They
teach the class as if they are addressing an audience. It is clear that they probably tried out for several plays/Broadway shows and simply were not good enough to make a career out of it. However, they still hold the fire of performing inside of them and use it in every aspect of their life, including teaching a classroom of very uninterested college students. 4. The total nerd This professor is so hard to watch because you just feel embarrassed for them 24/7. Are rocks really that interesting? Why yes, of course they are. Rocks are gods-gift to humanity, according to this nerdy professor. They are so smart that every time they open their mouth, you immediately feel even more stupid than you did before. They are so wrapped up in what they are teaching that you wonder if they even know that there is an entire classroom full of students in their presence. It’s actually somewhat admirable how passionate they are about their subject, but also incredibly concerning. These are the professors who usually don’t have on a ring (it’s pretty obvious why,) and thoroughly enjoy talking to other nerdy students about World of Warcraft after class. They occasionally put a funny picture of their cat on the power point to make the class more fun. However, I could like to inform you Mr./Mrs. Professor, that we do not care to see pictures of your cat. 5. The Professor who’s “just so boring that omg I can’t” Statistics is already incredibly boring, why do you have to explain everything in the most monotone way possible? This is the professor who is so inherently boring that class is literally painful to sit through. This is the class that has you looking at the clock every 30 seconds, only to realize that not even a minute has gone by since you looked at it last. However, as boring as this class may be, do NOT fall asleep. Do everything in your power to keep your eyes open because you will get called out, drool, or start snoring and nobody needs to see that. I have no advice for how to deal with these sorts of professors except to mull through it until the end of the semester and next time make sure to check “Rate my Professor” before signing up for classes. 6. “I love this class because my professor is so hot” Yes, we’ve all been there. This is the professor who is surprisingly good looking or has a personality that is totally adorable: The hot teacher. These professors make class fun, or at least interesting because they aren’t horrible to look at. They make you wonder why the heck they are geography teachers and not models. In reality though, if these professors had any other job, we probably wouldn’t find them as attractive. It’s the fact that they are teachers, not to mention HOT teachers in an environment where teachers usually are not entirely too pleasant to look at. If you are lucky enough to land a class with a cute professor, count your blessings. I guarantee you this teacher will make that 8am class way less miserable. Just make sure you don’t let your crush get in the way of your learning, of course.

To Live or NoT Live aT The CoTTages plenty of streetlights in both the front lawn and back parking lot that are not turned on. I believe this is something that could drastically change the amount of break-ins and make living there more carefree! One of the best aspects about the Cottages of Lubbock is the location! It is so close to campus and right next to a lot of other college-living hot spots. It is also so close to University Avenue, which is one of the main roads in Lubbock. Right off of University there are so many great restaurants and fun places that residents of the Cottages can enjoy in a quick minute. The bus system is great too. There is a bus that stops at the cottages every five minutes and it is usually very timely. Not to mention, the bus drivers are super friendly! The bus stops at University Fountains and then drops off at Holden Hall. I find this extremely convenient for all of my classes! Last year as a freshman, I contemplated for weeks where I wanted to live. My future roommates and I went to many different apartment Delta Delta Delta complexes before finding the Kortni is a sophomore studying one we desired most. As soon Journalism. You may contact her at kortni.robinson@ttu.edu. as we found the Cottages, we all fell in love. Although, we had heard a few negative things about the Cottages, we over-looked them and signed immediately. I would like to share my opinion with the Odyssey readers and Texas Tech freshman that are looking for a place to live.
KorTNi ROBINSON
The main thing that comes to mind when thinking about the Cottages of Lubbock is burglary and crime. The Cottages of Lubbock are located near Avenue Q, which is known to be not a very ritzy part of town. In fact, many cottages and cars parked at the complex have been broken into. The main thing I have to say about break-ins that occur in an actual cottage is LOCK YOUR DOORS. The only way a predator can break in is through a window or door. If these are locked there is absolutely no way unless they break glass! One positive thing I have loved about living here is the built in alarm system. The Cottages offer the system for free and it is so easy to set up. If anyone comes through the door while the alarm is set, it beeps constantly until the alarm is turned off. Yes, the Cottages do get broken into sometimes, but that is because doors and windows are being left unlocked. Although, I do believe the break-ins that occur in vehicles are a little out of control. Those are terrifying and aren’t as easy to avoid. The people who roam around the cottages at night are alarming. One thing I have noticed is there are
The cottages also have a few convenient amenities that are on location. The pool is a main place for entertainment in the summer time! Many people gather here to hangout and relax with friends. One downfall is the tanning chairs could use a little work, but there are built in grills, which make for fun summertime bar-b-que’s! The workout center located in the clubhouse is great too. It is slightly small but there are many different cardio machines and a variety of heavy lifting ones as well. The workout center is perfect for any type of exercise you are looking for. Also, located in the clubhouse is a huge area for group study sessions. This area has many tables and couches and can fit a large group in one place at the same time. There are also computers and printers upstairs for individual use. If you aren’t looking to study and just want a place to hangout you can do so here as well. The only negative thing I have to say about the clubhouse is that they removed the tanning beds. I was really looking forward to this add-on when I signed my lease, but I came to find that they had to be removed because people were abusing this amenity. Any time something goes wrong with your complex (light goes out, washing-machine broken etc.) the Cottages have a maintenance crew who fixes it in a very timely manner. I have loved this so much because I am used to living at home and having my Dad take care of anything that breaks! This way I can just call and have anything that is broken fixed in no time. A few other things that are great are covered parking, close mail, and convenient dumpsters. All in all, living at the Cottages has been a great experience for me. Sure, there are a few downfalls but there are definitely more positive aspects than negative! I really enjoy being so close to campus and all the hot-spots on University. I also love how we aren’t in an actual house that requires tons of upkeep but it still feels like a home! I would recommend the cottages to anyone, and I have already renewed my lease for 2015!

TeXas priMarY eLeCTioNs It is so important to not only vote, but to be an informed voter! Voting is really the only honest way Pi Beta Phi that America has to give feedback to the politicians Bailey is a sophomore studying that represent us. These biology. You may contact her at bailey.bell@ttu.edu. primaries are for the Texas Senate, and they each serve for 7 years. So it is of utmost importance that you choose wisely. Also, keep in mind that the primary elections are only for nominating who you want to run for the actual ballot. This keeps everything fair and ensures the lesser known candidates a chance. It is still a very important election, because at this point citizens are able to vote within party lines to show who they really support and to what extent they support them. So, for example, if you always vote for the Republican in the actual election without ever participating in the primaries, you are essentially telling the Republican Party that you support that candidate, when in reality you may have preferred a more liberal conservative that ran in the primaries. Are you picking up what I am putting down? Good- then Texas, make your voice heard by voting on March 4!
BaiLeY BELL
Here is a quick rundown on who is running, what there platforms are, and some fun facts that could help curb your opinion. Republican Ticket: John Cornyn (R)- The incumbent for Texas, is “committed to bolstering America’s national defense and homeland security, working to strengthen the economy and grow jobs, making health care more accessible, and improving educational opportunity for all Texans” (vote-tx.org). He chairs both the subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship and the subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities. The National Journal recently ranked him as the second most conservative member of the Senate. My opinion: He has been serving for so long that he has an impressive resume, however this recent Congress has been the least productive in many years, so is it time for a change? Curt Cleaver (R)- He firmly believes in getting America back to lawfully following the Constitution and Declaration. He plans to use his strong religious values and beliefs if elected. He was not born in Texas, but rather Indiana. He is an entrepreneur and very active in the business community. My Opinion: He was born in Indiana….. Dwayne Stovall (R)- He is all for limited government and claims he has “Jeffersonian Principles” (vote-tx.org). He attended Texas State University in San Marcos and has been married to his high school sweetheart for 22 years. He runs his own company building bridges particularly for the Texas Department of Transportation. My Opinion: I am all for limited government for it is a defining feature of the Republicans, however I am not quite sure he is qualified for what Congress requires. Linda Vega (R)- The only woman running as a Republican, she is a strong believer that America’s greatness has been overshadowed by poor politics of the past. She is ready to start anew and make America great again. Her family is very deeply rooted in Texas culture. She graduated from UT in Austin and then moved on to George Washington Law School (vote-tx.org). She currently works for the law firm that she started after law school.
My Opinion: I am not quite sure. You guys are going to have to decide on this one! Lesser Known Republican Candidates: Ken Cope, Chris Mapp, Reid Reasor, Steve Stockman Democratic Ticket: David Alameel (D)- He is quoted saying he is only running because “He wants to give back to his community and his country which gave him so much of God’s blessings” (vote-tx.org). He is against Big Money and the big corporations that seemingly run this country. He wants to help congress get past the “mindless gridlock” and become more productive (vote-tx.org). He is actually from Lebanon, and when he moved to America, he got involved with the military and attended dental school. He has an impressive list of entrepreneual ventures and community service programs. My Opinion: He is without a doubt the most qualified Democrat running. He has one impressive resume. Harry Kim (D)- He is running because he feels that Texas has yet to see its best years, and he wants to bring those years of splendor to the surface. He worries about congress’ efforts to only please their friends rather than help the greater good. He firmly believes that children are the Pandora’s Box of this country. My Opinion: I was a little hurt he said that Texas has yet to see its best years… Was he not around when Stephen F. Austin basically colonized all of Texas and the whole country would kill to be a Texan? No? Me neither… but I can only imagine how great it was. On second thought, if those were our best years then that was quite a while ago and we should seek after some time to mirror those days. Kesha Rogers (D)- She is one of two women running under the Democratic Party, and a “a leading member of the national slate of LaRouche Democrats” (vote-tx.org) who are funded by the LaRouche PAC (political action committee). She is quoted saying “The complete failure of all presidential candidates, Obama and the Republicans, means our nation has no competent leadership in a time of existential crisis” (votetx.org). My Opinion: I find that to be a bit of an overstatement, and scary that she finds Washington to be so horrible, but yet wants to run for senate? I am confused on her motive here… and I can’t decide if I am surprised or not that this is definitely not her first time to run for office. Maxey Marie Scherr (D)- Maxey is an experienced lawyer who has fought for children who have been hurt by others. She wants to continue this in the Senate, and speak up for those who don’t have a voice. It is clearly stated that she WILL do the following: raise minimum wage, fight for immigration reform, fix Obamacare (while keeping power from the insurance companies), cut wasteful spending, and increase support for public schools. She is a single mom from El Paso. My Opinion: As great as all that would be, how many politicians have we heard say that they absolutely will do this or that? Too many. Michael Fjetland (D)- In his platform, he blames the Republican Party and specific political activists for his previous congressional losses. He claims that since he was not a big name that he didn’t have a chance (hence the primaries here people!). I find it worrisome that he took the chance to blame others rather than explain the policies that he supports. That’s not a good look for any politician. He is not from Texas, but rather was raised on an Iowa farm. My Opinion: I was so blinded by his crying over his past elections that I was unable to really find what he stood for. His campaign aides need to pick it up is all I can say. Now, GO VOTE!

The latest health craze that seems to be consuming Hollywood and LA and pretty much the whole state of California is juicing. There are numerous juicing lines to choose from such as the Pressed Juicery and Clover Juice, both based out of California. Many A list stars are leading in this new health craze such as Ashley Benson and Francesca Eastwood. With spring break right around the corner I’m sure many of us ladies are desperate to try just about anything to ensure that that spring break bikini is going to look hot on us. Before resorting and banking only on juicing, you should know some pros and cons.
diet to work you must stay committed to it. You may contact her of going down on that beloved at kristen.fouse@ttu.edu. scale of yours. If you workout vigorously everyday, I’m not so sure replacing all meals with juicing is for you. It is essential for our bodies to have protein, which is a key diet element if you are trying to get toned or lose weight. While juicing provides excellent nutrients, your body is just not getting all that it needs to refuel your body after a workout. Another thing you should consider is that juicing can be quite pricey which is not always a good thing especially if you’re on a college kid’s budget. Dr. Oz is hesitant when it comes to juicing because he cautions that it could lead to “juicerexia” which is where people use juicing as their only source of food for long periods of time resulting in their physique becoming alarmingly skinny. Another downfall of juicing is that it lacks all of the fiber that whole vegetables and fruits have which can cause blood sugar swings.
Juicing is a great way to get in all of those essential vitamins and nutrients especially for those who just can’t seem to manage to incorporate fruits and vegetables into their every day diet. There are many juicing companies that you can order from that can cater to your specific needs and tastes whether you are a beginner or advanced juicer or need weight loss or want a cleanse or simply just want to incorporate juicing into your lifestyle. Juicing can result in weight loss for some, while others might lose a pound if that. If you want to try juicing there are startup kits that can help ease you into the lifestyle of being an avid juicer. In order for your juicing
As you can see there are many pros and cons of juicing so ultimately it’s a personal choice if juicing is right for you or not. If you can’t decide what to do try a mini startup kit that Pressed Juicery offers or consult a nutritionist for experienced and professional advice. If you have a special event to attend that you have to squeeze into that tiny spandex type dress and just want to feel skinny in then by all means give juicing a try, but just know that whatever weight you did lose is likely to come back. The nature of juicing can make anyone feel healthy and gives us that Hollywood vibe that we crave.

was played well on both ends but Iowa State took the win. The next game was one that Tech played their hearts out from the beginning all the way to the end. On February 18, Texas Tech played the Kansas Jayhawks and this game is definitely one for the books. Although, the scoreboard said 63-64, every Red Raider stayed at this game till the end. We stood, singing our fight song with pride for the effort that was played on the court that night. If you were at the game you know exactly how it felt. I had never seen anything like it, but it made me and every other Red Raider in that stadium proud. As February continues, so do the games. There is another game vs. Oklahoma State University on the 22nd. Also, on February 25th at home, we will be playing Kansas State. At this Kansas game we Red Raiders need to show up in our Red and Black ready Up here in good ‘ole Lubbock Texas, Head Coach Tubby Smith is bringing in a fighting team and a new name to the men’s Texas Tech basketball team. This season has brought a lot of support and we Red Raiders can’t seem to get enough of the home games here at Texas Tech. We are all wondering where Texas Tech will end up on the ladder. On February 1, 2014, Tech took Texas Christian University 60-54 with a great game played by Texas Tech. Following this win, on February 8, 2014, Tech played Oklahoma State University with a final score of 65-61. The Oklahoma State Basketball team was ranked No.19 at the time, but Texas Tech came out on top. As the month of February continues, Texas Tech basketball set the bar high and pulled out another win against Oklahoma University on February 12, with a score of 68-60. On February 15 Texas Tech travelled to Iowa State and lost with a score of 64-70; however, Tech never stopped fighting. This was such a close game that
to cheer on our team. By the time this is published, I hope I can look back and say it was a sell-out game, filled with our fighting Red Raider pride. As February comes to an end, there are still some games that will be nothing less competitive than what we have seen this far in the men’s basketball team. On Saturday March 1 at Baylor University we will have hopefully pulled out a win against the Baylor Bears, who have a very strong men’s basketball team. And on Wednesday March 5th there will be another game against the Kansas Jayhawks and I do believe Texas Tech will be bringing their A-game to redeem the loss that happened in February. On March 8th at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock will be a game between two rivals. The University of Texas in Austin men’s basketball team will be heading up to Lubbock. Needless to say, this game will be on our territory, a stadium filled with Texas Tech fans and a must see game that we have all been waiting for.

the COLLeGe UnIFORM Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane to high school. Remember those girls who would come to school with their faces caked with makeup, their hair perfectly styled, all while dressed in the latest trend? Keep that image in mind for a minute or two.

Next, try to find that picture you captured of what you thought every college girl looked like. A drop dead gorgeous, fashionista, rich Barbie - basically Elle Woods. Now fast forward to college. What’s the first thing you see? Over sized t-shirts, chacos, & “norts” (aka nike shorts) & slim to no make up. The everyday look of a true college girl. Of course when it’s cold, the norts change to leggings & uggs replace the chacos. Needless to say, you go from caring about everyone’s opinion in high school, to forgetting about putting on mascara in college, all within a short few months of summer. What always humors me is when you see a girl wearing jeans instead of leggings & her hair down, her friends ask “Whoa, why are you all dressed up?” Sometimes you just gotta reply with the saying “look good, feel good, do good.” Which is true, considering anytime I wear my hair up & I’m in comfy clothes; I’d rather go straight back to bed after my 8 AM than work on my homework.

According to usatodayeducate.com, there are a few things you shouldn’t wear to class. Sorry ladies, but leggings were ranked number 5. 5. Leggings as pants Some consider these to be yoga/workout pants, but their alter ego is known as “butt pants.” Girls love to wear them and guys love to check girls out when they wear them. Yes, they are oh so comfortable, but what kind of message are you sending? Being so tight, it gives viewers great insight into what your lower half is shaped like. One cannot help but stare at your butt as it shakes from side to side while you walk. Do not wear leggings unless it is paired with a shirt that covers your entire booty. You can find this article at: http://www.usatodayeducate.com/staging/index.php/ styles/seven-things-you-shouldnt-wear-to-class-and-seven-you-should Well, there ya have it. Leggings shouldn’t be worn to class, but we all know that is not going to change anytime soon. There’s always those few girls who choose not to sleep in an extra 30 minutes to make themselves “look” like they just rolled out of bed. Truth be told, we can all tell. Maybe some guys don’t notice a difference, but us ladies know for a fact your eyelashes don’t curl like that on their own, or it really only took you two seconds to put your hair up in that messy bun. Do as you please, but if you’re going to waste those 30 minutes getting ready, waste them by actually making yourself look nice. But hey, at least the attractive frat boys know what you look like from no make up, to when you’re all dolled up for the mixer that weekend. Rock those chacos, and flaunt your natural beauty ladies. Stay cool.

Resume Do’s and Dont’s If you don’t already have a resume, you should. And if your resume isn’t proofread to perfection, it should be. It is crucial to have a resume that you are proud of because an impressive and well-written resume can help you land an internship or job. Often times if employers find even one thing wrong with a resume, they throw it out and give the job applicant no consideration. With that being said, here are some important resume dos and don’ts to keep in mind:
DO: Provide a career objective. Make it short and simple, mentioning what you’re interested in and what skills you can bring to the table. DON’T: Mention what you hope to gain from a career. It’s not all about you. It’s about what you can do for the company. DO: Provide the name of your university, major, minor and graduation date. DON’T: Give your GPA if it is not impressive. Whether or not your GPA is something to be proud of is for you to decide. Generally speaking, if it is under a 3.0, leave it off. Employers aren’t as concerned with a GPA as they are with your related experience and work history. DO: Keep your resume to one page, if possible. It is key to have a clear and concise resume that provides employers with the most important facts. DON’T: Let your resume be over one page unless you are able to fill up about ¾ of the second page. However, keep in mind it is still best to keep it down to just one page. DO: Leave white space. If your entire resume is single-spaced with text covering the entire page, it makes it difficult to read. People should be able to skim over your resume
13
and get the information they need.
DON’T: Fill up every square inch of the resume with text. It may be difficult to keep your resume to one page, but keep it short and sweet and easy to read. DO: Use bullet points. DON’T: Use paragraphs. You can explain more about yourself in an interview. A resume isn’t supposed to provide every detail about your life and accomplishments. DO: Provide important related experience from your college career. DON’T: Provide any information about high school. Even if you were student body president, anything you did in high school is irrelevant at this point. Employers don’t want to be reading about it on your resume. DO: Proofread the entire resume. Do it five times. Have a friend proofread it. Have a parent proofread it. Proofread, proofread, proofread. DON’T: Have a single grammatical error or typo. We’ve heard it so many times -- if there is a single typo on a resume, it will simply be thrown out. Don’t even think about sending your resume anywhere unless you are positive it is free from error. DO: Send your resume as a PDF file. DON’T: Send it out as a Microsoft Word document. When it comes to working on your resume, remember you are not alone. There are many career services on campus that will look over your resume and give you feedback!
