Design Situation Identifying People Needs and Wants

PIES Physical Intellectual Emotional Social

The PIES Approach ď‚— Our Physical needs are things our bodies need

such as food and water, protection from the sun, exercise and sleep

ď‚— Our Intellectual needs are met through things like

books, magazines, the internet, television, theatre and games. These are the things that stimulate us and help us to learn.

The PIES Approach ď‚— Our Emotional needs have to do with the way we

feel and the way we express ourselves. For example we need things to make us feel happy, safe, wanted, popular and so on.

ď‚— Our Social needs involve interaction with other

people such as doing thing with friends or spending time with family.
