A Magical Visit to Alnwick Castle and Gardens A Yorkshire Treat including the Setting for Last of the Summer Wine
ITINERARY ITINERARY
FRIDAY
Morning departure making a short stop in the Yorkshire Market Town of Knaresborough. We then continue to the North West Coast to arrive at The Hilton Garden Inn Hotel - situated next to the impressive Sunderland Stadium of Light. Dinner is included this evening.
SATURDAY
An English Breakfast Buffet before our exceptional day out. We travel to the magnificent Alnwick Castle where we include admission to such well-known sights as ‘Hogwarts’ and many scenes from ‘Harry Potter’, the Christmas specials of Downton Abbey were filmed as Brancaster Castle.
Alnwick has so much going on, so much to see and many events. It is the second largest inhabited Castle in England and home to the Duke of Northumberland. We also include admission to Alnwick Gardens. Here you can wander through 12 acres of wonderful and award-winning Gardens, Orchards and Water Cascades.
Both the Castle and Gardens have full Facilities for a brilliant day out, Shops, Cafes and Restaurants.
We then return to The Hilton where Dinner is again included tonight.
SUNDAY
A Sunday Breakfast and then we re-join our luxury Coach as we travel to the Historic Seaside town of Whitby. Here lay the ruins of Gothic Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for ‘Dracula’, and you can also see the House and Museum of Captain Cook.
Whitby is a traditional Holiday Resort with some of the best Fish & Chip Shops in the North and has many other attractions. Early Afternoon we return to the West Midlands.
HILTON GARDEN INN SUNDERLAND
Situated next to Sunderland’s ‘Stadium of Light’, just a few minutes from the City Centre with access to nearby attractions such as the Sandy Beaches of Seaburn at the National Glass Centre.
The Hotel has 141 Bedrooms all with Private Facilities, Wi-Fi and Hospitality Tray. There is a Restaurant, Lounge Bar, Pavilion Pantry, Fitness Centre, Passenger Lifts and 24 Hour Reception.
FRIDAY
Afternoon departure travelling into Yorkshire and our Holiday Inn Hotel. Time to unpack and refresh before Dinner is served in the Restaurant.
SATURDAY
A Yorkshire cooked Breakfast and then we depart to Holmfirth – The Village where Last of the Summer Wine was filmed. There are still many familiar sights from this very popular TV Series. From here we travel to Halifax to visit Piece Hall – An 18th Century Cloth Hall now full of Shops, Exhibits, Bars & Restaurants.
We then transfer to the Restaurant that was the original ‘Harry Ramsdens’. Here we include a tasty 2 Course Fish & Chip Lunch.
Finally, we visit the Bradford Industrial Museum where you can see a fascinating collection of Textile Machinery, Steam Power, Printing Equipment, Motor Vehicles and even Mill Workers Accommodation.
We return to our Hotel where Dinner is included tonight.
SUNDAY
After Breakfast, we make our way over the Moors to the world famous village of Haworth. This is the home of the Brontë Family, whose novels included Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre.
You can visit the Bronte Parsonage, or take an early Lunch at one of the Public Houses before we join the Keighley and Worth Valley Steam Railway for a journey to Keighley. This Railway was featured in the films ‘The Railway Children’, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and of course ‘Last of the Summer Wine’.
From Keighley, our Coach returns to the West Midlands.
HOLIDAY INN HOTEL
The Holiday Inn is situated just off the Trans-Pennine Motorway at Brighouse, West Yorkshire – famous for its Brass Band.
