HID D E N ID E N T I T Y These images express a narrative that concerns gender distinction. Achieved through the curation of body positionings, and concealment of faces. The unidentifiable gender of the models is powerful, because it places the viewer of the images in a position of confusion. In static, two-dimensional works, we don’t know if we’re looking at a real person or a sculpture. These images encourage us to consume gender identity differently, with the intention to move away from a structured ideology of gender. Unable to differentiate between the male and female creates an unnerving impression, accentuated by the unnatural composition of the subjects. Adding to the overall confusion. PA S M O R E P AV I L I O N Set against the gritty industrial background provided by the Pasmore Pavilion in Peterlee. This shoot captures an ambiguous perception of gender, expressed through the movement of fabrics. Identity is the internal sense of self, as either masculine, feminine or a blend of both. The soft chiffon of the model’s garments allows the androgynous models to leave their identity open to question. In exploration of a genderless identity, using the contrast between harsh industrialism and the gentle weightlessness of the garments - creates an ineffable feeling of distortion. FUSION By deconstructing individuality and blurring the boundary between gendered identities. These images challenge the perception of the human body as a sexualised object. With the use of transparency and the close contact between the models, bonds the gendered identities. Removing the sexuality from the raw and natural images. They become one entity.

MASCULINITY A NEW DAWN

Masculinity: A New Dawn is a visual journal whereby the beauty of the contemporary man is explored through a female perspective. This, coupled with a strong belief that gender can move beyond the binary, allows masculinity to be deconstructed in the wake of the modernity.

The publication Masculinity: A New Dawn offers a unique perspective on masculinity as well as a questioning into the gender stereotypes within contemporary society – offered through creative direction, styling, and photography. By utilising the female gaze, the males do not feel as pressurised by masculine objectives, this is because the direction of the lens is curated by a female photographer.

Competition Brief: Not all athletes are born equal. adidas has found that in London, Paris, New York and Tokyo alone, over 50% of girls don’t play competitive or individual sports and over 25% of girls stop playing sport between the ages of 14-17. Why? Because they don’t see a future. There are too many barriers stopping their progression. There’s a legacy of inequality and opportunity. Lack of infrastructure, lack of access, lack of role models, lack of funding. A legacy that adidas wants to change. Create a product that gets girls engaged with sport.

By focusing on 14-17-year-old girls in London I will create a clothing line to motivate young girls to keep being involved in sporting teams. Being able to put your name on the clothing adds a personalised touch to each outfit allowing the young girls to match their friends but still keep their individuality. I think this as well as developing a program where influential female sporting figures are able to tell their stories and inspire young girls to be the best athletes they can be. This could be through an app platform or website. This will include locations of sporting groups that are available to girls aged 14-17 years old. Making sport more accessible and ultimately encouraging girls to stay swimming or participate in other minority sports. I believe many girls lack the motivation to stay engaged in sporting activities due to the obsessive nature of social media and celebrity influencers online. By showing girls what they could become if they stayed in sporting activates through internet platforms whilst still looking good and matching their friends in these outfits believe girls will be more inclined to stay in sports.
