MY FOCUS IS ON LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION BEYOND THE POSSIBLE.

I believe that interior design has the power to change the way we think and operate in a built environment, and can benefit the well being and the health of all who encounter a space. I love to explore all aspects of an idea with graphics, hand drawings and software, and utilizing these to help achive the full potential of a design. My inspiration comes from designing beyond the possible and making bold ideas a reality.

Arivale is a company that takes a scientific approach to wellness. CONCEPT- MACROCOSM My concept for this space is macrocosm: a representation of a smaller unit or entity by a larger one, presumably of a similar structure. This is shown through DNA and how the shape is mimicked by the organism that it inhabits. DNA combines to form billions of different organic compounds, and these organic shapes inspire the area and relate to the medical program. The space is a macrocosm in both aesthetic and design.

LAYOUT

My floor plan consists of 37 rooms and spaces (located on the fourth floor) that are dictated by a natural and organic flow. The layout is designated into public and private spaces, The employees utilize the back area while the consumers and patients would utilize the front. I have also provided key card access at several points to further ensure this separation .

RECEPTION

Biophilic incorporation is shown through the curved ceiling element, which is meant to mimic a mushroom, as well as the organic shapes of DNA. The natural wood appearance of the fixture further emphasizes the biophilic nature of the space and is also used as a sound baffling surface. There are signin screens included in this area that allow patients to sign in digitally using their online profile, which will be automatically sent to the doctors upon arrival.

CONFERENCE ROOM The conference space, utilized by doctors, patients, and coaches, allows for easy access of online profiles and digital information with the dual screen. It also includes a 3form sound absorbing wall for noise control and easily accessible table outlets. The organically shaped fixtures and natural materials further accentuate the concept.

OPEN 1 OFFICE

The open office is designed especially for the worker, utilizing sensory change and variability, noise control, and biophilic design. The plants in the space clean the air and provide a clear connection between human and nature. The raised office spaces provide separation between the public path and the work area, while still allowing an open flow. The chairs are safely situated with glass panels located on the edges parallel to the desks. There is a media sharing center that is designated through floor transitions and has movable stools for group meetings.

WORK CAFE

The organic shapes of the space, especially the path flow mimic natural paths of nature and exemplify the biophilic design. The swing garden is located directly across from the work cafe and allows the workers’ sensory change and variability as well as personal choice of workspace. The ceiling fixtures, as well as the columns, are Buzzispace sound absorption materials.

The work cafe is a communally used area which is adjacent to the working spaces. This area also has an organic feel with the Corian molded counter and ceiling element, and the natural woods and plants add to the organic inspired design.

EXAM HALL

The clerestory on the east side allows for excess light to filter into the hall from the East facing exam rooms. The consult spaces and the columns are wrapped in a wood that is meant to simulate tree bark, grounding these elements and bringing back the connection with nature. The screens located outside each exam room greet the patient as they arrive.

EXAM ROOM

The exam rooms are located on the East side, allowing natural light to enter in. The space includes healthcaregrade finishes and Steelcase furniture and casegoods.

PROJECT T YPE INDIVIDUAL

OBJECTIVE

For this project, we were tasked with designing a record store utilizing a 7,000 square foot warehouse in Miami, FL.

CLIENT-

Greg Hall is the current owner of the Columbus, Ohio based consignment music store, Used Kids. His company has survived through generations and has become synonymous with Columbus’ music culture.

CONCEPT-

THE TACTILE EXPERIENCE OF MUSIC Greg Hall on the resurgence of vinyl: “Young people started reacting instinctively, realizing they liked the tactile experience of music—I don’t even think it was conscious… it’s better socially, better for the community, and people can feel it.” Tactile- adj. designed to be perceived by touch The design not only brings in the audible aspect of music but also incorporates tangible, touchable qualities into the space with the layers of texture and pattern. The focus of the design is bringing people together through music.

LAYOUT

There is a central stage area for concerts and live music, and the retail area is organized around this. The ceiling fixture, as well as the record shelves, mimic a sound wave, engaging the customer with a visual representation of sound. There is a coffee bar in the corner that allows people to spend more time in the space while listening to live music or searching through consignment records. The cashier is located at the corner of the store, allowing a full visual field of the entire retail space.

RECORD STORE

The record shelves are modular and can be taken apart and moved for larger concert events. The visual layering of patterns in textures, such as the pattern of the floor, the texture of the grooves on the record shelves, and the sculptural quality of the electronics wall emphasize the tactile experience while engaging more than just the customer’s tactile sense. The brightly graphic and colorful neon signs on the back wall are representative of the aesthetic of Miami’s design district, in which this store is located. The floor brings a more literal meaning to the tactile experience concept with a fingerprint-shaped path that also aids in wayfinding. The path leads you through the retail space and begins and ends at the entrances/exits.

EVOLUTION OF GEODES THROUGH THE NIGHT Each geode is made up of a shell of triangular panels that allow small cracks of space between each.

LED light panel

The LED light source is contained within the geode, allowing light to escape through the cracks when turned on.

PROCESS DRAWINGS

When turned on, the geodes look as through they are growing, to give the illusion that the space is evolving.

When turned off, the geode shells disappear into the background.
