About The Mary Pickford Award As America’s first international film star, legendary silent film actress Mary Pickford was also a founding member of the creative community we call Hollywood. Mary Pickford occupied a unique position as the first lady of film, and America’s Sweetheart, while forging ahead as a philanthropist and paving the way for other actresses and businesswomen. Pickford was one of the founding members of the Academy. The Academy’s Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study was dedicated in honor of Mary Pickford in 2002. In consideration of her contributions to American cinema, the American Film Institute named Pickford 24th among the greatest female stars of all time. The coveted Mary Pickford Award is given to a woman of the community or industry who has: n Demonstrated a commitment to the mentorship of women in the workplace. n Displayed innovative leadership or qualities of a pioneer in her chosen field. n Served as a model of pursuing a vision or challenge with tangible results. n Made significant contributions to community service. n Shown a commitment to excellence. Past honorees of The Mary Pickford Awards include such stars as Angie Dickenson, Marion Ross, Doris Roberts, Leeza Gibbons, Stefanie Powers, Cindy Williams, Lee Meriwether, Marlee Matlin, JoAnne Worley, Carol Channing, Debbie Reynolds, Judge Judy Sheindlin, Diane Ladd, Nichelle Nichols and Nancy O’Dell
Diahann Carroll Our Mary Pickford honoree Diahann Carroll is one of television’s premier African-American series stars. She is the recipient of numerous stage and screen nominations and awards, including the Golden Globe Award for “Best Actress In A Television Series,” the Academy Award for Best Actress nomination for the 1974 film “Claudine,” and was awarded a Tony Award as Best Actress for “No Strings.” Carroll was a member of the Celebrity Action Council, a volunteer group of celebrity women who served the women’s outreach of the Los Angeles Mission, working with women in rehabilitation from problems with drugs, alcohol or prostitution. About the Heroes of Hollywood The Heroes of Hollywood Awards honor executives, business owners, leaders and organizations in the Hollywood Community. Recognition is based on outstanding achievement and dedication to excellence within an industry, organization or profession, special accomplishments, and community service. This is the most-recognized fundraising event of the year for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation, and is a significant annual event in Hollywood. The Heroes of Hollywood Awards recognize exceptional leaders in the Hollywood community who have transformed the lives of others and/or have made a remarkable contribution to the physical environment. Since 1993, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation has saluted more than 125 extraordinary leaders in our community through what was previously named the Women of Distinction Awards. Since 2011, the Heroes of Hollywood Awards have honored both male and female leaders, as well as families, businesses and organizations. Heroes of Hollywood serves as one of two major fundraisers for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization which is dedicated to improving the lives of Hollywood community members. All funds raised from this luncheon will be awarded in the form of grants to non-profit organizations that are doing remarkable work in the Hollywood community.
A TRUE HERO OF HOLLYWOOD
Johnny Grant 1923 ~ 2008 Johnny Grant and Hollywood are synonymous. As Tinseltown’s Honorary Mayor, appointed for life by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, he was one of the community’s most enthusiastic supporters for more than 50 years. He served as the Chairman of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee for nearly 28 years and was on hand to induct more than 600 stars. Johnny received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his birthday, May 9, 1980, for his contributions to Television and his involvement and support of the Hollywood community. When Hollywood Chamber officials invited Johnny to become Chair of the Walk of Fame at a time when it was struggling, he embraced the chairmanship with his famous energy and quickly turned things around. He added the fifth category of “Live Theatre” to the Walk and solved the problem of running out of space on the Walk by starting a second row of stars. Over the next three decades, Johnny built the Walk into an iconic worldwide attraction. A master of sound bites, Johnny knew what the press wanted and he knew how to promote the Walk. When reporters complained about selections on the Walk of Fame, he would respond that this was not the Pulitzer Prize, and explained that it was a tourist attraction. When Gregory Peck’s star was stolen, Johnny said to report it to the police but to also send out a press release. In Hollywood, Johnny has a street named after him. He has an office building named in his honor as well as the main Hollywood Post Office. But he will always be identified most closely with the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Rich Little Our Distinguished Service Award honoree Rich Little is a master mimic of more than 200 voices. Little continues to impress with a touring schedule throughout the United States and Canada. Infamous for his skewering of political figures, Little has charmed, amused, intrigued and gotten the best of politicians from here to his native Canada. Little also had his own variety show in the 70s, was the star of the TV show “KopyKats” and even a guest host for “The Tonight Show.” He quickly became a household name sitting in one of the “Hollywood Squares” and went on to do “The Muppet Show.” Named “Comedy Star of the Year” by the American Guild of Variety Artists, Little was the perpetrator of nine comedy albums and three HBO comedy specials, as well as the Emmy-award winning specials “Rich Little’s Christmas Carol.” In honor of his wife Marie, Little created the Marie and Rich Little Foundation, which focuses on helping children, the homeless and animals in need. Rich is also very supportive of causes for the armed services. 100 percent of proceeds from the sale of merchandise at his performances are donated to The Gary Sinise Foundation. Little is still currently working on his latest project, “Little by Little” a self-written, humorous show about his life, featuring over 30 characters. A book of the same title (…Celebrities I’ve Known and Been) has been released August 2016.
About the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation The goal of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation is to improve the quality of life in the community of Hollywood. We support and advance the educational, cultural and economic interests of the community by: n Raising funds by staging events such as the “All Hallow’s Eve” and the “Heroes of Hollywood” Awards. n The board researches and reviews grant applications, and one board member visits each organization to ensure the applications meet the Foundation’s requirements and the allocated funds are used accordingly. n Selected organizations are presented with a check at one of the Hollywood Chamber regularly scheduled events. We encourage applications from organizations that: n will use funds for specific purposes and tangible property rather than administrative services n are well-managed and use their resources effectively n collaborate with rather than compete with organizations n address the root causes of problems, rather than symptoms n make a significant contribution to the vitality of Hollywood n are 501(c)3 charitable organizations located in Hollywood n deliver services directly to those who need them

Fabio Conti & Chiara Santi
Our HERO couple Fabio Conti and Maria Chiara Santi both hail from Verona, Italy. The duo are the CEO and CFO of Conti Santi Properties. They are hospitality people at heart, and ran their restaurant, Fabiolus, for 25 wonderful years on the corner of Sunset and Vine. Their restaurant helped bring a sense of community to the area by catering to residents, theatre and moviegoers, as well as studios and offices. Immensely dedicated to giving back to their community, both Fabio and Chiara have been involved with several boards and organizations. Fabio has served on several boards including the Sunset & Vine BID, the Center at Blessed Sacrament, Central Hollywood Neighborhood Council, Cheremoya Foundation, Hollywood Sign Trust, and our very own Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Chiara served for many years on the board of the YMCA and participated actively in their “A Brighter Future Program teaching young mothers how to cook and buy groceries on a budget. She currently serves on the Cheremoya Foundation board, organizing events and raising funds to support the students, teachers, and administrators of this historic Hollywood school. They recently sold their restaurant to spend more time with their twin boys.
