This booklet is a visual document of the Volcanic Artist Residency pilot programme in April 2018, and the experience of participating artists Edwards + Johann. The new programme is being developed by Whakatāne Museum as a way to connect New Zealand creative producers and cultural managers with the Eastern Bay of Plenty and the active offshore volcano, Whakaari / White Island.

Details about the formal Volcanic Artist Residency will be announced later in 2018, and expressions of interest will be accepted from artists, curators, administrators, and producers. Residencies can range from between 1 and 8 weeks, with housing, excursions, and studio/ work space provided by Whakatāne Museum / Whakatāne District Council.
