The Rector’s Report

Dear parishioners of Holy Family Cathedral, A little over one year ago I shared our need for increased finances here at the Parish. Your response was very inspiring and the collections went up to fill the need. In fact we got through the summer of 2012 very comfortably and all bills were met and we found ourselves well in the black for the rest of that year. 2013 has not seen the same results or enthusiasm. July was a very difficult month while August and September were very close. Therefore I am asking you to think about the parish as part of your Christmas and Thanksgiving preparations. We need to have a very successful Christmas and Thanksgiving Season for the year to come through in the black. SO, PLEASE PUT HOLY FAMILY CATHEDRAL ON YOUR CHRISTMAS LIST!!! God will appreciate it and Msgr. Gier will appreciate it and the bill collectors at the door will appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. Sincerely in the Holy Family,

Msgr. Gregory A. Gier Rector

Notes from the Knighstand: BY MARTIN REIDY

I had a call last night from God:

Well, He must have seen me coming

“I know your expectations -

“Will you come, I pray

as He met me at the door-

That My house was to behold —

To celebrate with Me

“Welcome to My house.

That wonders be within

On this Thanksgiving Day?”

Dinner is at four.”

And My throne to be of gold.

“There will be a few more guests-

God introduced His guests to me

“But I told you many times

Some of My closest friends

and were they a sight -

In more ways than one

So I do hope that you will come

shabby, dirty, and ill-kept -

That my kingdom is the wretched,

And My guests will not offend."

they gave me quite a fright!

The despised, the poor, the shunned.”

Of course I was most gracious

Now, God sensed my discomfort

Then, suddenly I awoke!

As I told God, “Yes!”

and put me at my ease

“It was all a dream!”

(and bought new shoes and suit

“Welcome to my table

I mused in great relief

So I would look my best!)

And come sit by Me, please!”

As my life was as it seemed.

He said to come early

So I took a chair.

Now, on this Thanksgiving Day

So I came at 3 o’clock

Soon an angel served the “feast.”

At the feast with all its dressings

To spend a little time

I could hardly believe my eyes -

I will contemplate my dream

With my God — I thought!

Food so meager-to say the least!

And thank God for all my blessings!

But as I approached His house

As I began to eat

Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving to one and all! And

I was much chagrined

This very frugal fare

and the roof was falling in!

In a gentle voice with care:

Thanks! (We cannot cash checks made out to Holy Family!) PAX!
