THE PAPAL BLESSING BISHOP SLATTERY THANKS MONSIGNOR GIER AND FATHER JOHN GRANT FOR OBTAINING POPE FRANCIS’ BLESSING UPON OUR BISHOP AND THE PEOPLE OF OUR DIOCESE ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEDICATION OF HOLY FAMILY.

Volume 19, Issue 10

The Rector’s Report

Dear People of Holy Family, This month, we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Dedication of our Church with as much pomp and circumstance, bells and smells, joy and cheer as we could muster. I think that everyone on my Centennial committee is enjoying being done. I am quite pleased with the results of this year. It is a privilege to be the rector of a parish with such generous underwriters who paid for much of the centennial. I was thrilled to see so many of you attend our various Masses, concerts, festivals, and lectures. Many of you have written me notes praising the work we did. Thank you! Let’s look forward towards our second century: Holy Family Cathedral School is in good shape. 90% of our current families plan to return next year. Over one hundred thirty students are pre-registered for the 2014-2015 school year. Congratulations to everyone who works hard to make our school an excellent example of the power of Catholic Education - especially our teachers. The parish will offer some summer programs, including a new one: an all-ages Vacation Bible School. It will take place on Sunday evenings in July. I hope to see entire families attend our Sunday evening Mass, enjoy dinner afterwards, then participate in something new and exciting. Children will attend a short class in the school building while parents remain in the Auditorium for a special session for them. It should be interesting. Have a relaxing summer. Don’t forget to come to go to confession, to come to Mass, and to support your Cathedral Parish. Sincerely in the Holy Family,

Other than the continuing monthly homeless dinner and the 7:30 a.m. Sunday rosary in the Cathedral we have the Priests Appreciation Dinner on tap for a date yet to be selected for the parish clerics, Knights, and family members though it will be in early August. So with that we once again strike our banners from the ramparts, pull up the drawbridge, and settle in for the summer – swatting the flies, nursing a cold drink, and watch the clouds roll by! Have a Happy Pentecost, Happy Father’s Day, and Fourth of July! See you in September! PAX! 3
