Leah Darrow to speak at Cathedral: Model turned Modesty Speaker to appear November 23
How to Teach Your Kids True Love: First Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. HFCS 4th Floor (except for Nov. 23)
November 5, 2014 Teaching Your Children to say “Yes” - Fr. Kerry Wakulich November 23, 2014, 3:00 p.m., Cathedral basement Modesty and Youth – Leah Darrow
Leah Darrow appeared on America’s Next Top Model.
The Diocese of Tulsa recently surveyed hundreds of Catholics in eastern Oklahoma. They asked, “What is the most important goal the Church should pursue?” The most common answer was, “Help us pass the Faith to today’s children.” The Cathedral parish and school are ready to help. Holy Family has invited priests, deacons, married and single laity to lead discussions on chapters of Raising Pure Teens, a book by popular Catholic speakers Jason Evert and Chris Stefanick. The Cathedral and School are looking forward to an appearance by Leah
Darrow, a model who became a speaker on modesty. An excellent role model for girls, Darrow will speak to both parents and children. These discussions are designed for parents of teens and pre-teens. The goal is to create a comfortable space for parents to discuss various aspects of parenting - especially ways to protect children’s modesty, chastity, and purity. Most sessions will be held in the Fourth Floor Conference Room the Holy Family Cathedral School, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. The exceptions are the first night, Sept. 2, and
Leah Darrow’s appearance on Nov. 23 at 3:00. Both of those events will happen in the Cathedral’s basement. There is no charge to attend, but donations to cover our expenses are welcome. All of these sessions are open to all parishes in the Diocese. Complimentary babysitting provided for Children 3 Years and older. The organizers for these events are Monika Davis, Trish Spoerl, and Mike Malcom from the Cathedral School and Parish.

Putting the summer behind us the Council once again fired up the burners and with Brother Gray at the range commenced anew our monthly Pancake Breakfast in Heiring Hall with a generous complement of patrons to make it a pleasing success. We, naturally, hope that all our diners continue to patron us throughout the coming year. We pray that you keep in mind the monthly blood drive and toy collection for the disadvantaged. The sign-up sheet for the blood drive is located in the downstairs hallway on a table outside of Heiring Hall. and the toy collection box may be found in the same vicinity. Cathedral T-shirts are back in style and stock and such notice of same should be appearing in the Sunday bulletin for those of you who either missed out on the first go-around and or would care to have an extra T-shirt for that special occasion. Particularly noted in the month of October are the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary on the 7th,and Pro-Life Sunday which is the first Sunday in October which coincides with the 40

Family Cathedral on Sunday, 5,
October following
the 10:00 a.m. Dr. Cherie Hughes
Mass to sign her
book,
Katharine Drexel: The Riches-to-Rags Life Story of an American Catholic Saint. Hughes’ book details the life of a remarkable young Catholic who was an heiress to a banking fortune, yet took a vow of poverty, became a religious sister, and gave her money away to found hundreds of Catholics schools, one of which is Holy Family Cathedral School in Tulsa. The author shares her fascination with the young woman who “gave up her ball gowns and put on a habit.” Hughes explores Saint Katharine’s “inner beliefs and spirituality [which] moved to the foreground to illuminate what she did over her long and productive life.” Cherie Hughes and her husband, Bill, chaired the recent Centennial Year celebrating the one hundred year anniversary of Holy Family Church at 8th & Boulder. One of the events was an “Encounter with Katharine Drexel” in which Hughes dressed in a habit and spoke to the parish as Saint Katharine. Cherie Hughes (as Katharine Drexel) and Msgr. Gier greet parishioners. (October 2013)
