ABOUT US

Established in 1996, Holy Spirit Preparatory School is an independent Catholic school that combines the best traditions of Catholic education with those of a classical preparatory school. Serving students ages six months through twelfth grade, the young school has become known for its strong Catholic identity and its integrated program of academic and spiritual formation. In 2009, the U.S. Department of Education named Holy Spirit Prep a Blue Ribbon School. The school is recognized by the Cardinal Newman Society as one of the top 50 Catholic high schools in the nation for “overall excellence in Catholic identity, academics and civics education.”

THE HOUSE SYSTEM

Beginning in fifth grade, students are assigned to one of four Houses: Lyons, Nicaea, Trent, or Chalcedon. The House system is HSP’s primary vehicle for student leadership training and opportunities. Houses plan activities, fundraisers, and service projects, and form healthy competitions with other Houses.

A CLASSICALLY-INSPIRED CURRICULUM Students are required to take one year of Latin or Greek (and can take up to four years) and four years of theology.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Admission to Holy Spirit Prep is selective. The Admissions Committee carefully evaluates each candidate’s academic record, standardized test scores, and teacher recommendations to determine the student’s likelihood of success at HSP. Holy Spirit Prep does not discriminate on the basis of color, creed, handicap, or national origin in its admissions considerations. In order to offer prospective families three different admissions cycles, HSP has elected not to participate in AAAIS.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT Students are admitted into AP courses based on grades in prerequisite courses, teacher recommendations, and PSAT scores. Typically, students only take one AP class in sophomore year, two classes junior year, and three classes senior year. HSP requires students take the AP exams for their courses. All AP courses taken at Holy Spirit Prep are calculated into the cumulative GPA at a factor of 1.25. No other courses receive additional weight.
