Dining In: versatile elegance

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE DINING TABLE

We are now into autumn and, believe it or not, some people are already planning for Christmas! With winter looming and COVID-19 continuing to rear its ugly head, dining in remains an attractive option for many residents in Spain, with family get-togethers mostly taking place in the safe confines of their own homes. However, these days we are also aware that the dining table doesn’t only have to be a surface for eating off – it can also serve as a working area or a place to chat with friends over a favourite tipple while putting the world to rights. In short, the dining table is a versatile piece of furniture that brings people together… so it is definitely well worth investing in.

The design for Skagerak’s Aldus table was inspired by the popular Aldus trestle table. A carefully crafted rectangular table with rounded edges that seats six to eight people, it is shown here with their Georg Jubilee Stool, which was designed to celebrate Skagerak’s 40th anniversary – and combines Nordic sensuality with Japanese minimalism. The stool, made from untreated oak, comes with a rare cushion made of aniline leather (from a Swedish tannery called Tärnsjö) which is attached with a braided leather strap. Skagerak is available from BoConcept Plus Store on the Mijas Road and in C. de Negocios Oasis in Marbella (www.plusstore.es) and through High End Homes in Puerto Banús (www.high-endhomes.com).

Jean Prouvé’s EM table for Vitra comes in a range of sizes, with table tops in premium solid wood or HPL laminate and available in a choice of colours. Shown here with a selection of Vitra’s seating options, this dining area demonstrates how mixing and matching can work well aesthetically to add a playful look (www.vitra.com).

Top Left Gervasoni’s Moon table is available with a cast aluminium or white Carrara marble top, and the base in blue ceramic. Shown here with Gervasoni’s Brick handwoven chairs (www.gervasoni1882.it).

Above The Vipp Cabin is a medium-sized round table for the dining room or kitchen, with a solid, oiled light oak base and a marble tabletop. The Cabin chair features rounded components of solid oak and a hovering veneer seat with an affixed cushion in either sand or black leather. Vipp is available from High End Homes in Puerto Banús (www.high-endhomes.com).

Left This recycled teak circular dining table, contrasting with the black rattan chairs, shows how natural wood combined with jet black is a great way to create a striking look. Everything shown here is available from New Life Home in Avda. de Velázquez in Málaga, or shop online at www.newlifehome.es.

The solid oak Geometric dining table was designed by Alain Van Havre for Ethnicraft. It is elegantly simple, with soft flowing lines, and goes perfectly with their DC dining chair in olive green and chocolate leather. Ethnicraft is available from High End Homes in Puerto Banús (www.high-endhomes.com) and Siesta Interior Design in C. Plaza in Nueva Andalucía (www.siestainteriordesign.com).
