MAJOR INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION PLANS FOR
GC STUDIO
INTERVIEW WITH LUCIA CASAUS AND ALEXIS GONZÁLEZ
When interior designer Lucia Casaus and architect Alexis González founded GC Studio – formerly González Casaus – in Marbella, they focused on the concept of creating a distinctive style for luxury residences and villas, backed by a fully dedicated service for clients. Now the rebranded firm is expanding internationally, with new high-end projects in Rome, Paris and Los Angeles. Currently, the highly creative duo are designing projects that are being sold for more than €20 million.
What are the most exceptional international projects you are working on as a studio? It would not be fair to elevate one above the other. Each one represents a different challenge for our studio and an opportunity to project, in a challenging way, our concept of architecture and interior design. We have just returned from Rome, where we are building a villa in one of the most exclusive areas of the Italian capital, while in Spain we have started work on 50 luxury apartments in what will be one of the most iconic building towers in Málaga. We are also developing offices in the Plaza de la Concorde in Paris, with a surface area of more than 7,000 square metres. Another project that makes us especially excited, as it represents our leap to the American continent, is the development of a villa on the California coast.
How does GC Studio promote its vision of architecture and interior design beyond its borders? The initial idea underlying the foundation of our studio was not to implement a single vision of architecture and interior design, but rather to offer our own response to the different aspects of both that are posed by any project. In line with this premise, our studio has always understood that the boundaries of the conceptual and the technical do not exist, and that it is the client’s desire, together with our experience, that is shaping the final result of each project.
Do all future plans require a specific perspective? What are the keys to defining the future for GC Studio? Clearly all international expansion requires focus and study on what is being done beyond our territory. This is a constant learning process that we combine with our own work model, consisting of discussing with our entire team the options for each project. This helps us assess all possible perspectives and make the right decisions. Confidence in our work is the key to defining the studio’s future. This is what has prompted our clients to continue committing to us when they undertake investments outside the national sphere.
How do you combine your projects in Marbella with the international expansion that you are undertaking? Marbella has been a great opportunity for our studio. Its power to attract investment has enabled us to carry out projects at the level of what we have always aspired to, and this has provided us with enormous marketing
promotion at an international level. Marbella has been the door to our expansion beyond the national territory as our clients, in some way, want to transfer part of the special Mediterranean ecosystem to their countries of origin. Architecture and interior design are two tools that can be used to achieve this, and we will certainly work hard to balance all these projects as they grow.
