Living Rooms: creative expression

LIVING ROOM INSPIRATION

Now we are into the autumn months, many of us will be retreating to our living rooms, instead of the outdoor spaces, to while away the evenings – and even more so as we get closer to winter. It is at this time of the year when we focus on and start to make a few tweaks to this key living area of the home. From entertaining to some self-indulgent movie watching, this room needs to be inviting, comfortable and practical. Adding personality and your own artistic flair is essential, with layout and functionality being equally as important. Textiles such as rugs, cushions and curtains are a great way to add cosiness and a splash of creative expression. Choosing suitable seating solutions that fit the space is a good place to start. Invest wisely in a good sofa and armchairs and they should last you for years. Pouffes not only serve as footstools but they are also great for adding extra seating when unexpected guests come by, and depending on their shape they can also make handy side tables. Ensure you have adequate resting areas for drinks, table lamps and electronic devices so that everyone is seated comfortably and there is no need to get up every time they need to place something on a table. Keeping clutter to a minimum provides a calming feel to theroom and take advantage of natural entrance ways and windows with heavy furniture is obviously a no-no. So ensure there is plenty of space for people to walk around the room and allow natural sunlight where possible, to maintain the room airy and light during the day. Here are some ideas to inspire you…
