Kitchen Design Trends

In 2015 the kitchen was a place that was not only being built for cooking, it was being built as another room to socialize in; get-togethers, social gatherings, dining and even festivities have become commonplace in the kitchen which makes sense since so many people and guests tend to gravitate towards the kitchen than any other room, so why not build it for what its intended to be? If you are redoing, remodeling, rebuilding or for that matter building a brand new house and want to create a kitchen that will be a great place to eat, socialize and entertain in, continue to read below for the TOP trends in 2015. Big Bold Colors If you've always wanted to add big bold colors to this room, but you were scared to or were afraid to be too different, well, this year is the year to do it because it’s a major trend that is really catching on. You would be surprised how many people there are out there just like you - afraid, timid or well, let's be honest, scared to death to add a little BANG to the kitchen. A few ways of going about adding in bold colors are; by adding an accent wall and painting just that accent wall the bold color, painting your kitchen cabinets a bold color - this will actually draw the eye in and create a focal point, just how the accent wall does, but in a different manner. If you are adding bold colors to your kitchen, make sure you are also adding lighter neutral tones like gray, white, tans, etc. to bring everything together and bring balance to the room. Industrial Lighting Personally, this has more of a modern feel to it, so if you like modern, industrial or traditional, you will love this idea. If you are building your kitchen as the social hub of your home, you definitely need good lighting that will allow you to shed light on any subject (pun intended) but you also want lights that will accentuate the food and drinks coming out of your kitchen too - any good cook knows that the light, ambiance and feel of a kitchen Does matter! Industrial lights are very popular in 2015, but they vary in style and materials so you will probably find something you really love. Included are: •

Black steel

•

Stainless steel

Wire caging in place of sconces

Clear glass and old-fashioned style light bulbs

Copper or brass

Rivets and other industrial hardware

Industrial Kitchen Island If you can tell, there is a theme for 2015 - and it’s quite industrial! For this year, kitchens are taking on the personality of professional kitchens. If you've never been in a professional kitchen in a restaurant before, let me tell you what you are going to be seeing; a lot of stainless steel usually brushed for easier clean up, you are also going to see major restaurant fixtures, equipment, and accessories. You will also see some sort of a stainless steel table for preparing items on, and a lot of cutting boards. Because of this, the industrial kitchen at home is very similar, but a lot sexier. Instead of seeing plastic cutting boards all over the place and a random stainless steel table somewhere, people are recreating this look with a butcher Block Island with stainless steel legs and wheels. It’s still multifaceted, it’s just got a different look and feel - it’s warm, inviting, and versatile. This is an island that you can cut on, serve from, bake on, and, of course, use it as space after cleanup for people to sit at and enjoy your wonderful food. Another thing to consider is that same type of Kitchen Island, but one that has space for things like cookbooks, mixing bowls, measuring cups and more. Kitchen Flooring

According to a few designers and architects, the kitchen this year is going to have a popular flooring option, and it’s not wood! Instead, its porcelain. Porcelain is an exciting option because its versatile; comes in different shapes, styles, colors, designs, etc. but it’s also incredibly budget friendly for those of you that need to only spend X amount of dollars on the flooring in your kitchen, mostly because your budget went everywhere else! Porcelain is also superb because it tends to last quite a long time, it’s easy to clean and it goes with just about anything. One thing to remember though is that if you drop something like a pot on a porcelain floor, it will most likely crack, but since it’s so inexpensive, maybe that won't matter to you.
