Picture this: A beautifully manicured lawn with grass the perfect shade of summer green, even a small rock garden with emerald moss caressing each stone, and a gorgeous slate path winding up to the brick steps and an extensive backyard with gorgeous grass that looks like a serene jade lake. All of this green is lovely, but some color is needed. You don’t want an explosion of color, just a few pops here and there. This can easily be achieved by following a trick you use in your home. Just modify a monochromatic design scheme to transition seamlessly from an interior to an exterior. Why not go bold and bright outside with cheerful orange? Orange is an intensely vibrant color that is often overlooked. Persimmon, pumpkin, flame, and carrot are beautiful orange shades that are happy and energetic. Orange is a color that you can use to let your artistic creativity run wild. Let’s be honest. There is no way to have a completely true monochromatic exterior design. However, it is easy to incorporate an orange monochromatic design to your exterior, and have it flow from the front to the back of your home seamlessly. It is also rather inexpensive as well. It just takes a little bit of planning.

The outdoor furnishings are the simplest to work with and incorporate into any monochromatic exterior design. Remember, monochromatic is one color with black, white, or grey, so it’s best to have outdoor furniture in any of these colors and either switch out or have matching seat padding. You don’t have to do much more than choose where to set the furniture for the next barbecue. Natural orange-veined granite, flagstone, or manufactured cobblestone adds permanent orange to your exterior without being too orange. All are great choices for a patio or a stone path. The differing shapes and distinctive colors of stone give you various shades to use as a part of your monochromatic design. Accessorize your outdoor design by adding orange touches like a hot fire pit (pun intended), over sized umbrellas or awnings, charming birdhouses, and soothing wind chimes. Lanterns, bamboo tiki lights, candles, and colored solar lights make your vibrant oranges glow at night. Orange outdoor tableware keeps the party cheerful and lively. The exterior of your home can be a minimal or massive floral explosive, but let’s stick with a middle ground. Bright orange marigolds in pale orange pottery lining your steps gives just that pop of color without being intrusive. A small “island” or 2 of orange flowers of varying heights give dimension. Some flowers are even known to climb. Orange gerbera daisies, orange zinnia, orange dahlia and nasturtium are just a few orange flowers of varying shades and heights that can make up an “orange island in a sea of green”. A bright pop of orange in a yard adds a cheerful excitement to your exterior. Orange is an intensely vibrant color that is often overlooked. Just a few pops of orange here and there let your artistic creativity run wild. The feeling in your home is bright and cheery. Display some of that sunny disposition you have in your home’s exterior as well. Cheerio!
