Types of Interior Glass

No other material can make a room feel lighter, look brighter or feel more open than glass can. It also doesn't matter what your style is, from traditional and modern to contemporary and industrial, glass has the ability to mesh with all of these styles and is incredibly versatile. When it comes to choosing glass types, you really have a lot of different options available to you, which is nice, but it can also be tricky if you aren't sure what to look for! Below you will find a few types of glass, as well as fabricated glasses. To learn more, continue reading. Clear Glass This is one of the most common types of glass and is used for all sorts of things including shower enclosures and glass walls in the bathroom. They tend to have a sort of greenish blue tint to the edges of the glass and are usually made to 3/32" to 3/4" in terms of thickness. 1/4 thick glass will allow for 90% of light to come through it.

Stained Glass This is a type of glass that is considered art, its also called cathedral glass or opalescent glass and is a rolled type of glass with many different colors and styles available. Stained glass cannot be tempered, but if you really love the way it looks, that little detail might not matter to you very much. If you've ever been to a cathedral in your town you probably also know that this type of glass is pretty reflective and when the sun shines on it, it bathes the whole room in the colors of the glass, its really quite pretty.

Obscure Glass This is a type of glass that is also popular in windows, but it can also be used in glass shower enclosures and bathroom walls as well. It can be patterned with designs, figures or they can have other options like textures such as rain, frosted and wood grain. Another amazing craft. This type of glass is usually rolled and then the pattern or whatever you

choose is embedded into the surface of the glass using a roller. In some cases, when it comes to textures like frosted, the outter part of the glass can be touched and you will feel a raised layer - in other instances the "textures" or patterns are created within the glass so while you can see it, you can't necessarily touch or feel it. These types of glass products are also really popular for privacy reasons, especially when you start to add things like frosted designs - they are difficult to see through for both the person looking into out and out to in, but they still allow a little light to come through.

Reflective Glass This is a type of glass which is really popular in green or ecofriendly homes because it essentially helps save you money on heating and air conditing costs and reduces solar gain. It still lets some light pass through, but its essentially considered a sort of tinted glass that has a very small layer of metal oxide added to it. Its appealing because of the color options, but if broken, it can be a costly replacement.

Frosted Glass This is done by way of sandblasting and usually can't be tempered unless its been sandblasted first. You can have a variety of designs, images and etchings placed into these frosted glass products and is popular, like most of the other options above, in bathrooms for windows, glass blocks, bathroom walls, shower enclosures, etc.

Tempered Glass This is a type of glass that is strengthened by a very high temperature and then cooled quickly. The process locks the glass into a state of extremely high compression. Once tempered, this type of glass becomes extremely strong, in fact, you can't drill through it or cut it so everything you want to be done to the glass has to be done before its tempered. These are also very popular with shower enclosures, bathroom walls and also other home items like glass desks, glass shelving units and more.

As you can see from the options above, and that was just a few, you have a lot of different options available to you in terms of how the glass is made, how strong it is, and what design and color options are available to you. If you are planning to remodeling your bathroom and would like to add glass to the mix you should contact a company that specializes in custom glass enclosures in NJ. Adding a custom glass enclosure, such as a glass shower door can give your bathroom a modern look ad feel.
