Welcome to EduWeek 2014 Now entering its 8th year Education Week returns as SABC Education African EduWeek 2014. It is with great pleasure that I introduce and welcome you to the African EduWeek 2014 conference and exhibition. This year’s conference theme is “Empowering teachers to deliver quality education everywhere”, a topic firmly tied into our vision of creating the most inclusive and allencompassing education event in Africa. The complexities of the education systems in Africa are vast and constantly changing. There is no doubt that evolution is taking place, particularly with the accessibility of classroom technology, and the barriers to a good education are disappearing. We have made a number of key changes for EduWeek 2014 by remodelling the conference structure and pricing. During this workshop participants will experience how to practically implement learner centred teaching strategies in their classrooms, using mobile devices. Many schools are currently providing learners and teachers with tablet devices in the hope that it will change teaching and learning, but sadly this is no guarantee for success. This workshop will draw from our experiences in a large scale mobile device implementation as we model some of the ICT4RED teacher professional development course elements in a hands-on practical fun environment. We will investigate how to embed mobile devices within: • Change management • Lesson gamification • Learner centered teaching strategies

Introducing the African EduWeek 2014 technical workshop partner, Centre for Education Innovations South Africa Center for Education Innovations South Africa is one of five global hubs that include: Nigeria, India, Pakistan and East Africa. CEI promotes programmes, policies, and practices that increase access to quality, affordable, and equitable education for the developing world. The vision is for education systems around the world to capitalise on innovation so as to increase access to quality education, especially for the poorest and most vulnerable. The development of CEI was based on the understanding that there is an incredible amount of innovation and activity in education, but it is not systematically documented and there is little evidence about the most effective ways to improve access to quality education for the poor. CEI was developed in order to address this gap. At African EduWeek CEI South Africa will be hosting a series of seminars and discussions that include examples of innovative programmes in education, research from neighbouring states and new models for financing education interventions. Only upon payment will your place be booked. We recommend you check with your finance department that payment has been made before travelling to the conference. Service charge: A 5% service charge will be applied. Teachers and principals from schools are exempt. Cancellation policy: Cancellations made within 48 hours of receipt of the completed registration form will be eligible for a full refund. Cancellations received in writing more than one month prior to the start of the event will be refunded less a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations received in writing within one month of the start date of the event will receive no refund and registrants will be liable for payment of 100% of the invoiced amount. A substitute delegate can be named at any time before the event starts and no fees will be applied to this. No-Shows: Registrants who do not attend the event after the cancellation date will be liable for payment of 100% of the invoiced amount. Important notes: This booking form constitutes a legally binding contract. It may be necessary for reasons beyond the control of Clarion Events to change the content and timing of the programme, the speakers, the date or the venue. In the unlikely event of the programme being cancelled, Clarion Events will issue a credit note or make a full refund but disclaim any further liability.
